Yes, he was. I was listening to both Hunky Dory and Alladin Sane in the last couple of days and was thinking how timeless his music is. The man was genius.
No disrespect to the other dearly-departed musicians for whom biopics have been made in recent years, but Bowie’s musical genius is ahead of the others.
Lately I find myself trotting out Joni Mitchell’s classic line with more regularity: “Don’t it always seem to go, that you don’t know what you’ve got ’til it’s gone.”
Very true for David Bowie for me. I was always vaguely aware of his oeuvre but would not have considered myself a real fan. After he passed away and all the retrospectives started, it seemed like all I saw was example after example of great music – a lot of songs that frankly I did not even realize were his.
