  1. Well, all I can say is Thank You Jesus that Donald John Trump is the Republican candidate, and not someone else!

  2. Trump is dutifully working to join the James Buchanan, Andrew Johnson, Franklin Pierce and Warren Harding league. No complaints.

That’s the world’s cop you’re messin’ with Kinsella. You’re on the verge of dragging Sock Boy into a war and the Orange One is in a fightin’ mood.

  5. Steve Teller says:

Apparently he is now saying it was “sarcasm”.

Sadly, a lot of his sycophants will take that response and just put it out of their mind like all his other b.s..

    • Ronald O'Dowd says:

      Steve,

Trump is furiously intent upon destroying Trump and with each passing day he gets better and better at it.

    • The Doctor says:

Charlie Sykes — a Republican and a conservative — called Trump’s defenders “a claque of turd-polishers”. Nailed it.

    • Fred from BC says:

“Apparently he is now saying it was “sarcasm”.”

Yeah, that was a really, really dumb thing to say, even for Trump. IF this is for real, that is.

Because Trump could very well have said that in response to a specific statement that the media is not cleverly not differentiating from other statements, much like the “He said COVID-19 was A HOAX!” scam they tried to pull. I have no idea, but that’s the whole problem: we can no longer trust the news media to tell us the truth, can we?

So sad. Anyone have a direct quote to offer? I’d really like to know who is telling the truth here.

  6. the real Sean says:

Now they are talking about taking Trump off the press briefings?! This is terrible! He was the best character in the Covid Show! We were all tuning in at 6:00 for the daily laughathon. Who will forget such comic gems as: “Total authority”, “they’ll call me the King of Testing”, “Lysol / sunlight injections”, “Liberate Virginia”, “Tough on China”, “cancel WHO funding” and “the cupboard was bare”?! If Trump isn’t returning for Season Two of Covid, I think they should cancel the show and I might consider cancelling my subscription to CNN.

    • Fred from BC says:

“Now they are talking about taking Trump off the press briefings?! ”

No, only Trump can do that (you know what a control freak he is). Either the constant attacks have finally gotten to him or he is just doing it to punish the reporters. Either way, the public loses because they don’t get to hear from the other people involved (Birx, Faucci, etc).

  7. Ronald O'Dowd says:

    Bill,

People are incorrectly amateur diagnosing Biden’s primary condition as some form of dementia when in fact it’s based on a stutter that he’s had since childhood. Being on the campaign trail takes its toll and only accentuates his condition. It’s more fatigue and stress induced than anything else. And Biden has said as much in interviews.

    • Fred from BC says:

“People are incorrectly amateur diagnosing Biden’s primary condition as some form of dementia when in fact it’s based on a stutter that he’s had since childhood.”

      With respect Ronald, no.

“You have entire generation of young people beginning back in two-thou— when the attack occurred on 9/11 that in fact have been behind the 8-ball from the time they got out of school,”

Maybe he didn’t actually forget what year 9/11 happened. Maybe that was his ‘stutter’.

“We hold these truths to be self evident. All men and women created by the, you know, the thing…”

Maybe he didn’t forget the preamble to the Declaration of Independence. Maybe that was his ‘stutter’ as well.

But forgetting, just the other day, how many grandchildren he has while he’s holding a picture of them?

Saying ““We have to take care of the cure. That will make the problem worse, no matter what. No matter what.” ?

“Super Thursday”? Forgetting what state he’s in, forgetting who he served as Vice President under (and in what years)? Confusing his wife and his sister? Claiming to have met Kim Jong Un (never happened)? Claiming to have “worked with” Deng Xioping on climate change (he had been dead for years)? Went to Afghanistan to award a medal (never happened)? Arrested trying to see Mandela (nope)? MLK and Kennedy assassinated in the late ’70s (wrong decade)?

There are so many, many more that I can’t possibly list them all…and more new ones every week now (not to mention the newly discovered Larry King Live clip from 1993…that’s not going away, either).

There comes a point where even the most stubborn and partisan of us are forced to acknowledge reality. I hope that point comes soon enough for the Democrats to switch candidates, otherwise you’re looking at four more years of President Donald Trump.

      • Ronald O'Dowd says:

        Fred,

I will go so far as to say that I’m open to the opinion of cognitive specialists who I realize will not have met or treated Biden. Perhaps after that, I will be more convinced by your argument. So, bring on the TV doctors.

        • Fred from BC says:

Remember the 60,000 ‘mental health professionals’ who signed a petition calling for Trump’s removal on mental heath grounds (all of whom “broke with accepted practice”, or something, in order to do so)? Or the 350 others, led by a Harvard professor, who did the same right around the time of the impeachment? Remember the CNN and MSNBC stories about it?

(of course, other practicing psychiatrists quickly came forward to claim what a ridiculous contention that was, and how it irreparably damaged the reputations and professionalism of those involved….but that’s okay, they got their message out, right? That’s what counts, to these people,,,)

Yeah, you won’t see anything like that with Biden. We all know why.

Oh, and CNN just took a certain 1993 episode of Larry King’s show off of Google Play, then RENUMBERED the remaining shows to match (yup, “disappeared” it completely. Stalin would be so proud..). We all know why.

        • Ronald O'Dowd says:

          Fred,

No question you’re on a roll. Like you, I believe what’s good for the goose is good for the gander. This level of hypocrisy by the left is mind blowing and beyond shameful.

        • Ronald O'Dowd says:

Who knows, if it’s advertised on Fox, I will actually watch it. As you know, Fox has never been my cup of tea, nor is MSNBC.

A good friend always needles me for faithfully watching the so-called Clinton News Network. That normally is a tea that I enjoy immensely but they are just as biased as the rest of them.

  8. Daryl Gordon says:

I repeat, Trump is not a politician. He is a salesman slash promoter slash raconteur who has always operated in the “gray” area favored by entrepreneurs successful or not. Hence whatever current thought that is in his mind is often expressed without running it through the political correctness filter. Trump is under such negative , relentless scrutiny that tweaks to context or gotcha journalism easily and often results in foot in mouth commentary which is all that’s widely reported. Trump being Trump, does not help himself either.

    A better explanation: https://www.nationalreview.com/corner/media-donald-trump-new-york-times-inflates-foolishness-into-monstrousness/

These incidents don’t dent Trump hard core support , his personality and morality foibles trumped (verb and adjective) by equally relentless push back leadership against his foes. He has also largely delivered on right wing issues.

Examples: What do you suppose happens to the next Iranian gunboat that threatens a US Navy vessel?
How large of legal hammer is coming down from Barr/Durham investigation?

A economic recovery coupled with covid control before the election equals a Trump reelection. All bets are off if the Democrats replace Biden with any competent candidate that’s not named Clinton.

    • The Doctor says:

Re delivering on right wing issues:

Tell me again about that Obamacare repeal and replace thingy and how spectacularly that went for Trump.

Tell me again about how Trump got Mexico to pay for a big, glorious wall spanning the entire US-Mexico border.

Tell me again how Trump slayed the federal budget deficit and slashed the federal debt, fiscal responsibility being, of course, a right-wing issue.

Trump’s core supporters, the really hard cor ones, don’t actually give a shit about issues or policy in the classic sense. The examples above illustrate that. It’s primarily cultural. David Frum (not a liberal) put it perfectly: for them, Trump is cultural revenge. He’s a great, big middle finger towards the liberals they hate so much.

  9. Fred from BC says:

As funny as those pictures and captions are, THIS is not amusing at all:

    (from CNN, April 16th)

“Um, you know, there’s a uh, during World War… Two, uh, you know, where Roosevelt came up with a thing that uh, you know, was totally different than a, than the, the, it’s called, he’s called it a, you know, the World War Two, he had the World, the War Production Board.”

Anderson Cooper, being the consummate professional that he is, managed to keep a straight face. Dr. Sanjay Gupta could not, and the look on his face was either astonishment, horror or a combination of the two.

  10. Ronald O'Dowd says:

    Daryl,

Except only the delusional or the economically dimwhitted (most of Wall and Bay Streets) expect a recovery anytime in 2020. Too bad that.

    • Daryl Gordon says:

All good points gentlemen. The border wall was overblown Trump campaign rhetoric, mostly a symbol of restricting immigration. Red meat to the deplorables, as was “lock her up”. Neither taken seriously by anyone of substance.

Obamacare is imploding on its own, premium increases resulting from the new tax laws and the end of cost sharing to insurers, less access, poorer quality of care etc. Repeal was stymied by one vote, the RINO senator McCain.

Real progress for the right lies in the appointment of hundreds of right leaning federal and district judges. The holy grail is the Supreme Court, one Ginsburg health hiccup from conservative majority for years to come. Plenty of powerful groups will continue to give Trump lots of leeway for this alone.

      • Ronald O'Dowd says:

        Daryl,

The backlash depends on how right-leaning, or left-leaning the majority becomes. Most Americans are centre-right while all shades of Liberals are close behind. Sadly, moderates are far behind. Last are the rabid-right-wingers.

Conservatives often live in a fantasy land convinced that justices on the bench will not put the country ahead of party and personal beliefs. But in fact, the opposite is why Warren moved, Souter moved, Kennedy moved and now Roberts. They know that centre-right is the only inoculation against a country torn apart, drifting toward civil war. Too many on the right erroneously believe in a right-wing nirvana that will remain static, but to their linking, for the next fifty years. However, that will never happen in reality. It’s just bullshit fed by right-wing politicians to dupe the true believers, who seemingly know very little about legal critical analysis.

  11. Unfortunately, I can see how Trump saying ridiculously false things with confidence can come off better then Biden saying true things with ums and ahs.

  12. Mark D says:

Biden is not there to wrestle the presidency from Trump. Of course Democrats would be thrilled if Biden wins the White House, but it’s the proverbial icing on the case. Not to mention very unlikely given that Trump is both the incumbent and less experienced of the two candidates.

In U.S. presidential elections, Americans rarely toss an incumbent for a challenger absent substantial third-party interference. They also prefer their presidents to be perceived outsiders to the political establsihment, rarely electing a candidate that has spent longer than ten years in major political office.

Thus Biden was chosen by Democrats as their presidential nominee because he is by far the strongest candidate to protect Democrat gains from the 2018 mid-term elections. As you will recall, Democrats won back the House of Representatives, the majority of state governorships, and made substantial gains at the state legislature level. (Though Republicans slightly increased their narrow hold on the Senate).

Basically, having Biden as the presidential candidate protects moderate and centrists Democrats downballot. It also provides Democrats with a real opportunity to take the Senate, which has a number of competitive seats in 2020 currently split between both parties.

Put another way, Biden is the Bill Davis of the Democrat Party–bland, but moderate and trustworthy. His brand of Democrat can be trusted to counterbalance Trump in the House of Representative and U.S. Senate without attempting legislative overreach. Whereas having Warren, Bernie, Kamala Harris, or Mayor Pete as Democrat standard bearer would have risked pushing moderates and independents back into the Republican camp.

As a Canadian I still struggle to wrap my head around this concept, but my American friends would say it is all part of their “checks and balances”. Americans will likely stick to Trump as their president unless the U.S. economy completely tanks following the current epidemic. However, Biden sends a message to voters that Democrats can be trusted to keep Trump in check through the legislative branch.

    • Mark D says:

Here is what my American friends and Relatives have confirmed.

Those who are Democrat are asserting Biden will easily dispatch Trump in the general election to become the next POTUS.

Those who are Republican are asserting Trump will breeze to re-election and is likely to hold the Senate and possibly win back the House as well.

Those who are moderate, centrist and/or independent likely would have supported Trump and even GOP candidates downballot had Kamala Harris, Elisabeth Warren or Bernie Saunders been the Democrat nominee. However, Biden is a solid alternative to Trump.

Some prefer Biden personality-wise and policy-wise, but are concerned about his health as well as his ability to keep the Democrat Party’s left-wing in check. So they want to see who his vice-presidential pick will be.

Also, they are well aware of Trump’s weaknesses, but for the most part the economy did well under his presidency, and they cannot stand the political classes and the mainstream media constantly nitpicking Trump.

And as for the experienced political pundits among them, they are all saying Trump will likely be re-elected unless the economy totally collapses following the current pandemic. However, under Biden they expect Democrats to hold the House as well as various 2018 gains made at the state level. For them the real battle will be over control of the U.S. Senate.

  13. Ronald O'Dowd says:

What I deplore among so many American Conservatives is their ridiculous assertion that the constitution can only and should only be interpreted in strict constructionist fashion. And that, of course, is patently ridiculous. The Founding Fathers could not have possibly foreseen the natural evolution of society, much less dealt with it in the constitution. We are living in 2020 not in 1776. It makes absolutely no sense to take society back to 1776. The First Industrial Revolution is in no way the guide to the proper and adequate administration of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

  14. Daryl Gordon says:

Modern western society has moved so far left that every action is now subject to extreme levels of political correctness plus an ever growing overregulation of industry. Both to the detriment of practical development. See: Canadian government policy regarding resource development. Political correctness just recently resulted in this nation paralyzed by illegal blockades by special interest groups with no legal consequence.

This is why it takes someone as off the charts politically as Trump. Painful as it may be to some, he is at least moving the conversation in the direction of the middle.

Speaking of evolution, our gracious host W. Kinsella has two recent tweets possibly supporting Trump positions on climate (YouTube-Planet of the Humans) and criticism of WHO head handling of pandemic.

Purely accidental of course, or maybe it’s the fever talking.

  15. Ronald O'Dowd says:

    Daryl,

You do realize that the grossly excessive and irresponsible deliberate actions of financial services gave us both the 2008 recession and the 2020 depression? Anyone who argues to the contrary in this sector is simply out to lunch. This fostering of deliberate capitalist greed by banks was the end result of Clinton, Bush, Obama and Trump’s policy. They all get to wear it while the little guy once again goes down the tubes. Those banks are not only too big to fail (right) but also too sacred to go to jail. That’s the reality that so many capitalist apologists will never see or proactively recognize in a month of Sundays. So much of that reflex deregulation bullshit, without introspection, is pure garbage. Yeah, get government out of the way. Absolutely, so financial services can royally fuck the willing sheep for a third time. Too funny. And then be a dolt and reward them with trillons in unpaid for public money to save their insolvent fucking asses.

    • Mike,

Yes, I’m back to being a Conservative but as you know, I’ve always been of the Mulroney, Clark and Segal variety. In other words, those unwelcome Red Tories. That will make a lot of CPC members shit but at least those in that group will be assured of properly functioning intestines. LOL.

      • Ronald O'Dowd says:

        Mike,

Do you actually think I give a shit whether I’m welcome or not? They’ll still see me for the leadership ballot and policy convention.

      • Fred from BC says:

“Do you actually think I give a shit whether I’m welcome or not? ”

You’re more than welcome, Ronald…you’re essential. You keep them honest. I personally don’t want a Red Tory to *lead* the party, but that’s not the same as not having any (they they would just be Reform again).

Oh, and Erin O’Toole is apparently now ahead in the leadership race…what’s that all about? I thought McKay had an insurmountable advantage…

      • Fred,

        Thank you.

Now you know how close I am to Team MacKay. LOL. Somehow, they don’t see the “necessity” of keeping me fully briefed.

If O’Toole is actually ahead, which I imagine is correct, then Peter can’t fire himself so he’ll have to dig up a few convenient heads to roll in short order. That means a retooling and course adjustment is no longer optional. It’s essential if they’re going to win. (However, they don’t listen to my advice so, God bless ’em and good luck to them. They have that in common with the current Prime Minister. But hey, no skin off my nose.)

  16. Gilbert says:

Are we familiar with thimerosal? It’s a disinfectant used in vaccines. The president never said people should inject bleach.

    • Fred from BC says:

“Are we familiar with thimerosal? It’s a disinfectant used in vaccines. The president never said people should inject bleach.”

      Shhhhh….not so loud!

(you’ll trigger Mike and The Doctor, and forever be branded a “Trump lover”…:)

  17. Ronald O'Dowd says:

You see, I’m a true capitalist, not your garden variety crony capitalist that populates Washington D.C. since Bill Clinton. Financial services, in the form of investment banks, should go the way of Bear Stearns and Lehman, period. Their time is up.

  18. Daryl Gordon says:

Any bets on a Biden withdrawal for “health” reasons. There is a pretty big story perculating away. Conveniently ignored by mainstream media and #metoo liberals.
    https://www.businessinsider.com/former-neighbor-corroborates-joe-bidens-accuser-2020-4

Ps: Trump indiscretions are already baked in the cake

    • Mark D says:

Four years ago I would have said these accusations would disappear or go nowhere–as evidenced by similar accusations against Trump or Clinton.

However, in this post-#metoo era? It’s much more possible these allegations could gain legs.

What would surprise me, if the allegations prove credible, is that Team Obama did not uncover them while vetting Biden for VP.

      • Fred from BC says:

“What would surprise me, if the allegations prove credible, is that Team Obama did not uncover them while vetting Biden for VP.”

Oh, I’m sure they did. They had no way of knowing about the Larry King thing, or how many witnesses would eventually come forth (two more yesterday, wasn’t it?).

The Biden campaign had better get out in front of this, and quickly. It is NOT going away, and the MSM will soon be forced to acknowledge it (thank you, social media!) whether they like it or not.

Better to let Joe retire before the election “for health reasons” as planned, rather than go out this way. If I were his family I’d insist on it.

        • Mark D says:

Is it possible these allegations could derail Mr Biden’s candidacy and force Democrats to select another nominee? I believe yes. As we saw with Sen. Al Franken, post-#MeToo no politician is above accountability when facing allegations of sexual misconduct.

Is it likely? Right now, I suspect the effects will be limited to dogging Biden’s campaign on social media, U.S. talk radio, and Fox News.

From what I read, the allegations are very serious. And if I understand correctly they previously had been reported, although information concerning their severity may have been withheld in the initial report.

For his part, Mr Biden claims innocence and has invited mainstream media to investigate.

As an armchair pundit living in Canada this is well beyond my experience or political expertise to figure out. Thus it is with utmost trepidation that I share the following two reasons as to why I currently don’t believe these allegations will derail Mr Biden’s presidential nomination:

1 – As previously mentioned, if the allegations were proveable I believe Mr Obama’s team would have uncovered them when vetting Mr Biden as Mr Obama’s running mate.

2 – Yesterday, Mrs Clinton came out with a strong endorsement of Mr Biden for president. The Clinton’s are still well connected within the Democrat Party, as well very shrewd politically. I believe Mrs Clinton would have waited if there was a strong likelihood these allegations could derail Mr Biden’s nomination.

          • Fred from BC says:

“Is it possible these allegations could derail Mr Biden’s candidacy and force Democrats to select another nominee? I believe yes”

They’ll be doing that anyway, He can’t possibly last until November.

“Is it likely? Right now, I suspect the effects will be limited to dogging Biden’s campaign on social media, U.S. talk radio, and Fox News. ”

Yeah, probably. We’ll have to wait for the next round of polling to see how badly this hurts him with women.

“2 – Yesterday, Mrs Clinton came out with a strong endorsement of Mr Biden for president. ”

A bit late, right? Possibly that was in response to these new allegations (although she can hardly be considered a poster girl for the #MeToo movement, given her past history and statements). Obama also waited an awfully long time before giving his own endorsement.

Joe Biden served his purpose in eliminating Bernie Sanders (that’s all the DNC really needed him for). A couple of the other nomination front runners dropped out suspiciously quickly (hmmm). One of two things will happen now: either they will wait until the Democratic running mate for VP is announced (and no, Joe doesn’t get to pick) and elevate him/her to the presidential spot after Joe steps down, or just just keep him where he is and “hope for the best”, meaning they have already written off the 2020 election and are now turning their attentions to 2024. I think the former is more likely. We’ll see.

  19. Daryl Gordon says:

Biden was annointed (pay off Bernie again) the candidacy primarily for name recognition and association with Obama. Before the pandemic a robust economy made unseating Trump unlikely so why not put forward a fossil. Save the younger , not ready for primetime Dems for 2024.

Imagine the machinations going on in DNC backrooms. How to plausibly replace Biden, placate Sanders/green new deal support and still stay in the political middle?
    ………..

    • Mark D says:

Biden was appointed to protect moderate and centrist Democrats among moderate and independent voters. Otherwise, there was real potential that a candidate from the Democrat left could lose the House of Representatives, several state governorships and legislatures, and allow for Republican gains in the Senate.

This is why Pelosi was forced to bring the hammer down internally on AOC and the Squad.

  20. Daryl Gordon says:

To modify a quote from sleepy Joe. Good discussional intercourse on this topic.
