Mask It or Casket

But…but… they used to say that masks weren’t required! So how can we believe them now?

Every time I hear that ridiculous line of logic, I want to pose some analogies:

    – They said the earth was flat, and the sun revolved around it, for centuries. And now they say it is round, and it revolves around the sun? Make up your mind! Why should we believe them now?

    – They said that the cholesterol in eggs was unhealthy, but now they said that eggs are a good source of protein and can be part of a healthy diet. Sheesh – what next? I’m just going to boycott eggs.

    And the list goes on.

Libertarians are bad enough but what about the no covid morons. That guy at Trumps rally last night said it was a plot to take down America. Said most people died From having preconditions. Someone should have told him he was obese which is a precondition. You can’t fix stupid.

How about some recognition that not all people are dumb? I haven’t worn a mask since this all began. I avoid unnecessary social interaction and engage in most of the rest outdoors. I haven’t put anyone at risk. My son lives in Colorado in a what is basically a late teenaged flop house, petri dish and continues to visit his 80 something grandparents without mask and without risk as they mostly go for hikes in the mountains while maintaining distance. I have no reservations about my other kids going back to school, regardless or masking policy.

I find masks uncomfortable and unhygenic, like having a snotty Kleenex stuck to my face. Others may disagree, but that is their opinion. Going to a store or restaurant or bar isn’t worth it if doing so involves masking. This has been an opportunity to do more around home, spend more time outdoors, become more self sufficient and spend less money. The later is especially important as I don’t trust the government or central banks to pull the economy through, so I’m in extreme money hoarding mode until the stimulus is over.

If it were say wearing a non-visible dermal patch on your butt, would the culture warriors be as focused on face masks as a logo?

Remember when the public health officials and politicians said masks weren’t necessary? In fact, they said ‘the science’ said masks were useless. What has changed?

They figured out that it was airborne. They originally thought it was by touch. Try to keep up.

      • joe long says:

They (WHO, US health officials, and Canadian health officials) knew COVID could be spread by airborne means in Feb and March 2020. So my comment for public health and politicians still stand |

Interestingly, there is a WHO report, dated October 2019 that recommends mask use for general public in the event of a pandemic.

I started using a mask in Feb when I went into grocery stores etc.

See my post above. Scientific knowledge evolves.

We have two of those so-called Libertarians in our very own office…one spends plenty of time fighting with her daughter, a nurse in training, over masks and vaccinations. When she heard about Legault’s fines starting tomortow, she almost went beserk. The mind quite literally B-O-G-G-L-E-S!

  6. The Doctor says:

Some of the “reasoning” that goes on regarding this issue is so asinine: “A scientist was wrong about something once, so scientists have no credibility anymore regarding anything.”

    • joe long says:

The scientists I know will tell you one or more of the following:
      – look I was wrong, this is what I now know
      – we’ve gotten new information which has caused us to change our opinions and recommendations.
      – we’re not sure of the right path to take, but here are our recommendations regarding how to proceed and why.

When recommendations change during a pandemic, or any crisis, people are allowed to ask WHY. In fact journalists should be asking that question of the ‘experts’, who should also be able to explain why the recommendations have changed.

Watching the Trump rallies… I’m certainly not an expert, but I think the authorities in these states need to start looking at criminal negligence / manslaughter charges for the organizers.

I’m with you on this W.

I despise wearing a mask (having had to numerous times back when I was a soldier) but I’m also dealing with pre-covid lung issues which have yet to be resolved so I’ve been wearing one since March.

That is, of course the least of my concerns.
It isn’t just the immediate person in contact that can be the problem, but the potential of several degrees of separation/contact that can cause the spread.

I say this as my family shrinks our respective “bubbles” in order to protect my mother who will be 93 next month.
By the way, she just underwent surgery for three stents successfully yesterday – hard as nails!

The responsibility falls on all of our shoulders to protect our loved ones from the irresponsible fools that think only of themselves.

I may be presumptuous I saying so, but I believe we have a common interest on this front, good on you for protecting her any way you can!
