Lol, a good list, we can quibble about the order.

Xi Jinping needs to be on a list. Maybe you can make a different list, with guys like him, and provide drones some coordinates.

    Cheers and merry Xmas!

  2. Pedant says:

I wish Bill Morneau hadn’t volunteered to take the fall for WE.

Although Morneau was hapless, hopelessly privileged and out of touch, I don’t regard him as a corrupt sleazebag like Trudeau. I actually do believe him when he claimed he basically “forgot” about the $40K freebie from WE. To him, that’s beer money.

By being the fall guy, he took the pressure off Trudeau, yet again. Though props to him for leaving before the 6-year cut-off for the gold plated pension.

    • Pedant,

IMHO, the entire cabinet could fall on their swords for this Prime Minister but in the final analysis, road wear has now clearly thoroughly settled in.

It’s up to O’Toole to pound them serially and succinctly all the way up to the election. A steady time-released dose will go a long way.

      • Pounding on Trudeau’s scandals won’t win O’Toole the election. He has present his plans or people will fear the worst from him.

        • Ronald O'Dowd says:

          Darwin,

I would put it to you that O’Toole is seen far more as a safe political alternative than Harper ever was. That’s why Harper lost in 2004, only to win a minority two years later.

Sure, some people on the left will go with the Martin 2004 playbook but it likely won’t work this time. O’Toole is a classic Blue Tory with, if you bother to look for them, considerable red tinges on social issues. That’s about as mainstream and non-threatening politically as you can get in the center in Canada. So, in the wake of The Globe’s reporting, this Prime Minister should expect little benefit of the doubt from voters when this government finally has the guts to face the voting public in an election. The next election is now O’Toole’s to lose. IF most of his close advisers are in the De Lorey mould, then a CPC government is more than likely in the offing. And Yes, I’ll take that bet.

          • It mainly hinges on his climate policy. A policy good enough to win will anger his base. He will have to choose.

(Note, I am far left, so he won’t be convincing me.)

          • Ronald O'Dowd says:

            Darwin,

If it logically flows that A + B = C, then O’Toole is on the right track. However, I absolutely agree with you that without a credible climate change policy, O’Toole won’t win. If A = political leadership, B = credible policy and C = winning government, then it goes without saying what a party leader should and must do in relation to the base.

          • Ronald O'Dowd says:

In NDP terms, one need only look back to the divisions surrounding the parlance of The Leap Manifesto. It did not become party policy, for better or for worse.

  3. Nick M. says:

Jagmeet has an opening to make 2021 a good year for him.

Oppose Trudeau’s flirtation with changing the language laws. Laws that already result in White people having a predominantly outsized representation in our federal Bureaucracies.

And don’t stop there Jagmeet, be the first leader to champion against any level of Canadian government from discriminating against those who wear a hijab at work.

Differentiate your party with causes that our big policital winners in Western Canada, but BC in particular. (The area Trudeau has high hopes for electorally.)

    • Ronald O'Dowd says:

      Nick,

It’s easy to talk a good game politically but in practice, not so much. The constitution is clear and you’ll never, ever, see the feds legislating in areas of provincial jurisdiction. Sure, Trudeau badly needs BC to win another majority but he also needs every seat he can get in Quebec, so his lip service as regards the French Fact in Quebec is nothing more than a false and disingenuous effort to hold on to his Quebec seats in the next election. The Bloc is the wolf at the door and Trudeau’s sudden and timely FF awakening will do little to prevent Liberal losses to the BQ in the next election. In other words, in Quebec, this convenient and self-serving lip service is hardly seen as Saint Paul on the road to Damascus. Everyone can see right through the motives of this Prime Minister.

      • Nick M. says:

But Jagmeet doesn’t need to give this lip service, because he has nothing to win or lose in Quebec. He does have the ability to differentiate himself from Trudeau, and score political points in BC.

Jagmeet has been dealt a favourable opportunity, yet his team aren’t bright enough to see fit to capitalize on this.

  4. faithless elector says:

Don’t follow the Chrystia Freeland piece…. She’s an enabler. A part of the problem. Wild out of control spending, corruption, sexism, racism, incompetence… Chrystia Freeland just shrugs and says this is all fine. People like her because she seems serious and stays out of trouble. Not leader material. Not student council material.

    • Ronald O'Dowd says:

      FE,

Evidently, I’m far less of a Freeland fan than I used to be post-SNC, but I wouldn’t go quite as far as you do. However, your words will bring a broad smile to the faces of members of the alleged CarneyCabal!
