Coincidentally, a Musician friend of mine killed himself. He was in Flatrock Michigan at the time. I should have recognized his radiant smile as a distraction from his sunken lifeless eyes. I failed him. I will miss him terribly.

I’m sorry for your loss. But it seems you are neither psychologist or psychiatrist — or seemingly any other mental health professional so never, ever, blame yourself.
In my case, I took the big leap in 2014. None of my family had a clue either. That’s just the way it is. To be that perceptive and proactive as a non-trained person would put you in a class almost all by yourself. That would be at the very least, extraordinary.
