My latest: how to know who Justin Trudeau really is, in the place where his soul is supposed to reside

Pretend, for a moment, that you are a big wheel in the federal government. Prime Minister, even. Leader of the Liberal Party of Canada, too.

Pretend you are running a government that styles itself as feminist.

Would you then permit someone to run for you, as a candidate, who said he was looking for a girlfriend to do his “cleaning, folding, cooking?”

Your government proclaims it is anti-racist, too. Would you take that same candidate after he’d mocked the way Chinese-Canadians speak?

Your federal political party says it’s against homophobia and sexual assault, too. Would you accept that guy into your caucus, after he joked that men’s tennis “sounds exactly like gay porn?”

How about after learning that he would like to “accidentally sexually assault” someone? How about then?

You’d still take him? Okay, let’s say you are considering which MP to give a big raise and make the Parliamentary Secretary for Crown-Indigenous Relations. Would you hire that same guy, after he wrote that “every skinny aboriginal girl is on crystal meth?”

You wouldn’t, would you? No. No decent, sane person would. When a man makes that many racist, homophobic, misogynistic, anti-Indigenous remarks, you wouldn’t hire him for any task, would you?

But you’re not Justin Trudeau. And Justin Trudeau did indeed promote Jaime Battiste — the Liberal MP for Sydney-Victoria, N.S. — to what is a junior cabinet minister post. Gave him a big raise, too.

And made him one of the most powerful elected people in Ottawa — on the Indigenous file.

Now, governments don’t usually reveal themselves in grand, sweeping gestures. Sometimes they reveal themselves — their absence of a soul, say — in the little things. Like promoting someone like Jaime Battiste to help oversee Indigenous issues.

In a way, it isn’t really surprising.

I mean, this is the prime minister who solemnly promised to bring clean water to Indigenous reserves — and then just didn’t.

This is the prime minister who said he’d clean up the poison in the ground at places like Grassy Narrows — and then mocked a young woman who came to an exclusive Liberal event to talk to him about Grassy Narrows, telling her “thanks for your donation” as security men threw her out onto the sidewalk.

This is the prime minister who said he wanted a day for Truth and Reconciliation with Indigenous people — and then lied about where he was on that very day, and jetted out to B.C. to hang out in a millionaire’s mansion. On a beach where he likes to surf.

This is the prime minister who pushed his minister of justice and attorney general to stop the prosecution of one of his party donors — a donor who was facing corruption charges on a massive scale.

And then, when that minister — a proud and respected Indigenous leader named Jody Wilson-Raybould — refused to obstruct justice, he kicked her out of the Liberal Party. And when another respected female cabinet minister named Jane Philpott spoke up to defend Wilson-Raybould, he kicked her out, too.

That’s who this prime minister is. That’s who he is, in his soul. In his essence.

A man who claims to be a feminist, but isn’t. A man who professes to oppose all racism and homophobia, but doesn’t. A man who says he wants reconciliation with Indigenous people — but will never attain it.

In his words and his deeds, we all know who Justin Trudeau is.

He’s the prime minister who recruited, and promoted, Jaime Battiste — a jerk, a creep, who says that “every skinny aboriginal girl is on crystal meth.”

That’s who Justin Trudeau really is.

No pretending.

Justin Trudeau has made it impossible for Liberals to have any good feelings about taking their time to show up to their local polling station. The Liberal Party as it enters 2022 is an organization united only through mutual shame and disgrace.

And… no… Chrystia Freeland is not the solution to the pathetic, horrific mess he will leave behind. She is more guilty than anyone else of being a knowing enabler of racism, sexism, incompetence, blatant corruption and fiscal imprudence at the highest level.

  2. Ronald O'Dowd says:

    Warren,

The Liberal Party inclined voter just doesn’t care. They are used to a leader and prime minister who inevitably comes up with an even bigger and better negative topper: the one before this disgrace was putting Joly in Global Affairs. No surprise to your typical Liberal supporter and in their eyes, no harm, no foul. Just one more atrocious example of JustinJudgmentTM at work…

    God help poor Canada.

    • JH says:

Liberals love to vote for arrogant elitist rich pricks. It makes them feel superior. Justin Trudeau’s parents were just that and he is the product of his environment.
I don’t get the surprise that he’d turn out this way?

      • Ronald O'Dowd says:

        JH,

Well, if Pierre was a C Actor at best, everyone still knew he was an arrogant asshole. With this one, as a B Actor, he did a far better job of hiding it, at least in 2015.

I hated the old man’s guts from Day 1, à la LaMarsh, but the country and most of my relatives loved that fucker. Just ask Warren.

  3. Ronald O'Dowd says:

As for tonight’s question, how about this: how is Carney sleeping these days?

Divorce is both strategic and politically useful but it does have its limits as a Liberal wonder-cure. Imagine following this shit-show.

  4. Jim Murphy says:

Until Liberal supporters decide that they have had enough of the high school antics of this PM and government or they can no longer afford to feed their families Trudeau will continue to be PM and to be unconcerned with doing the right thing. He is the most tone deaf politician in the country.

    • The Doctor says:

I think Liberals are benefitting from a tremendous element of negative partisanship amongst their supporters. When I listen to Liberal supporters rationalize their position these days, they’re just as inclined to barf out something negative about the Tories as they are to say something positive about the Liberals.

And Butts & Co are fully aware of that and milk it for all it’s worth.

  5. Joseph says:

Pretend to be someone that is the epitome of pretence?

    Seriously?

In other news, the opposition has said no deal to Mouth Holland and the “compromise”.
You might want to have a look at what’s taking place at the finance committee too.

  6. Douglas W says:

Matched up against EOT + Jagmeet Singh, JT wins every time.

  7. Pedant says:

It’s deliberate and flagrant. This appointment should make that clear. He is daring the media to come after him (knowing they won’t), and he’s mocking the citizenry.

    He is scum.

  8. Kyle McIntosh says:

Great piece Warren. The only omission of note as far as I can decipher is the repeated blackface appearances by our “right honourable” PM back in the day that undoubtedly was an early warning sign of his overall attitude towards racism IMO. Can’t blame that one on Harper either I guess.

  9. Gilbert says:

This PM is a disgrace. Unfortunately, people continue to vote for him.

  10. Ronald O'Dowd says:

    Sean,

Put another way, virtue signalling and any actions attached thereto were quite simply thrown out the window with the advancement of this person’s political career. In short, the woke life aspirations of this Prime Minister were suddenly both inconvenient and a necessary relic of the past. He cares not what any breathing soul thinks. After all, he’s well qualified to already know everything. He’d even give God’s advice a pass…being smarter than him and everyone else. The unmitigated gall of the man. How I miss Harper.

  11. Ronald O'Dowd says:

To the combined opposition I say this: defeat this bastard in the House and be damned quick about it. Canada can’t afford putting up with him any longer.

How LaMarsh correctly diagnosed what’s known as Trudeaus. How I despise this guy.

  12. Marilyn Baker says:

People who take money from charitable organizations -such as the CMHA – instead of giving to them – truly have no soul. And then he benefits from fraudulent charities such as WE … sickening.

  13. Ron Benn says:

Mr. Trudeau is an actor playing the role of PM. He reads the lines prepared for his role by the playwriters, emotes when cued, and exits stage per the script notes. As is the case with other actors, the persona presented on-stage/on-screen is separate from the off-stage/off-screen persona.

No hypocrisy here. Just someone playing the lead role in a long running melodrama with a limited plot and all the quality one can expect from people not talented enough to work for the CBC. Sigh.

  14. A. Voter says:

The National Post reported this week that HIV infections have increased twenty-five percent in Canada since the 2015 election. Aboriginals on reservations have a huge infection rate. The surge is due to Liberal incompetence.

  15. Doug says:

Jaime Battiste provides yet more evidence of the double standard that Liberal politicians enjoy.

Mélanie Joly stated that the two Michaels were “on bail” rather than kidnapped. Of course the CBC host didn’t question that assertation.

  16. Overlooked in this conversation are some inconvenient facts. Justin has won three elections in a row. Remember the old saying “Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice…”. Enough people have decided the devil they know is better than the one they don’t. I have said this before (and will say it again), as long as the PM’s opponents are mediocrities that fail to convince the electorate they are a better choice, don’t expect a change. To his credit, Justin is a better campaigner than his opponents and IMHO his party is far more disciplined and professional. I don’t see any reason why he shouldn’t run his current government for at least the next couple of years before another election.

    • The Doctor says:

It’s interesting that the situation you describe is not unlike the situation under PM Chretien. E.g., disorganized, incompetent, ineffectual opposition. And on the right side of the spectrum, serious problems getting electoral traction in large urban areas.

  17. Ted Hamill says:

He’s not Conservative and on that basis I will continue to vote Liberal.

  18. Ronald O'Dowd says:

    ER,

Absolutely, he’s a natural campaigner and far better on the stump than Erin or even Harper. But what killed two majorities is his never ending legacy of lead weights and he’s got a talent for creating new political baggage with each passing day. The saturation point is still a ways off yet but yes, inevitably, it will come and down the Liberals will go. That’s what keeps MessiahCarneyTM up at night these days. His political divorce ain’t working.

    • Hi Mr. O’Dowd

Eventually, yes, the accumulated weight of political baggage will take its toll; I agree with you. But we need to have a credible alternative. I watched as the same thing happened to Dalton McGuinty. He became a liability. But Tim Hudak handed the election to Kathleen Wynne and the Ontario Libs got another mandate they didn’t deserve. Yes, she lost the next election, but she should not have won her first either.

      • Ronald O'Dowd says:

        Hi ER,

That type of context puts Erin in a quandry: does he voluntarily announce that he’s submitting himself to an early leadership review or doesn’t he? If it’s the first option, he needs to be reasonably confident that the vote will substantially go his way — frankly, not so sure he’s already obtained that confidence level he needs OR does he continue to resist — and that pretty much speaks for itself now doesn’t it? Glad I’m not in his shoes.

  19. Ronald O'Dowd says:

Like Captain Renaud, I’m shocked, shocked, shocked to see National Council declaring that Batters’ petition is not constitutional.

What does that tell you? It tells me that Erin is at best wobbly in his current position.

And how will 20% of caucus react…I wonder.

    • Douglas W says:

      Wobbly is an understatement.

Behind-the-scenes pressure will force EOT to step down next month.

Betting his replacement will be Melissa Lantsman.
      She knows how to win.

      • Robert White says:

O’Toole has retail value still, and it’s highly doubtful that he will step down ‘next month’. If I had to guess what’s going on behind the scenes it’s not a huge inferential leap to assume he will remain as leader.

Predicting that he will step down is a long bet with little chance of a payoff IMHO. Odds are he will be next PM.

        RW

        • Douglas W says:

          O’Toole, retail value?

He can’t do retail politics, so how can he have retail value?

          • Robert White says:

His retail value is found in his prime ministerial performance relative to Trudeau on the leadership debates. In contradistinction to Trudeau, and relative to his peer group of candidates he is the retail statesmanship that looked prime ministerial in his approach.

None of the other candidates looked the part including Trudeau. Trudeau looked as though he was going to have to leave the room filled with adults by comparison.

O’Toole is still holding down the fort via Cons mutany & backstabbing fest too. This means he has retail value as a steward of the ship.

            RW

          • Robert,

Wow. Quite something from a guy who voted NDP!

        • Douglas W says:

September 2021 was a winnable election.

EOT and his strategists blew it because they didn’t know how to secure the most seats.

          • The Doctor says:

There is absolutely no way to prove or disprove that September 2021 was a winnable election.

          • Ronald O'Dowd says:

            Doc,

Perhaps not but weren’t the CPC ahead in the polls for roughly two weeks? Or, was it all a dream?

          • Ronald O'Dowd says:

            Douglas,

Sure, they blew it. No question about that. In my book it was due to vaccination policy first and foremost during a pandemic and imbecilic assault-style weapons policy. That absolutely killed our chances in Ontario. The buck stops with Erin, period. He should be blamed for this defeat, whether he stays on or goes. His decisions screwed us.

          • Ronald O'Dowd says:

And FAR WORSE THAN THAT, Harper at least man-ed up and took personal responsibility in 2015. O’Toole? Crickets…

      • Douglas,

Maybe this is enough to breach the dike and maybe not. We’ll see soon enough. Either a purge is coming or a reckoning. Haven’t got a clue which way it will go.

        • Douglas W says:

The “boys” will sit down with EOT and say: “listen here old chap, you’d be wise to have a moment of contemplation and announce you’re stepping down.

“Or else, it’s going to get ugly — real fast.”

          • Douglas,

Sort of depends who the “boys” are. If they and the fairer sex are part of 20% of caucus, then he’s already slip, sliding away. If not, Erin’s got no worries.

Like I said, they gave Harper the nod in Montreal in 2004. Need I say more? (I voted No.)

  20. Max Heiliger says:

    Out-on-a-limb time.
The recent release by the police of a video of a “suspect” in the Sherman murders — some guy out for a late-night stroll — has the smell of a spook tactic. Methinks the boys in blue have way more to go on than one grainy doorbell video.
Let’s not forget that the Sherman whack saved the day for none other than a certain Justin H. Trudeau, Esq. What Little Potato oddly tweeted as the Shermans’ “sudden passing” meant the all-too-convenient end of an inquiry into fundraising corruption that would likely have kiboshed Mr. Interlocutor’s political future while also earning him an extended stay in the crowbar hotel.
Not that our once-and-future Rt. Hon. Nobody actually ordered the hit. Leave that to the Nomenklatura for whom Trudeau is in reality a mere hand puppet.
Did they order Chrystia Freeland to take over the heavy lifting back when Boy Blunder pissed away his majority, and their interests were at risk? You bet they did. Follow the money.
Prediction: His Nibs involuntarily out under foggy circumstances, and a new P.M. sworn in, well before the next switch to daylight savings.
