KINSELLACAST 245: Adler, Lilley, Mraz, Kheiriddin, Moscrop – plus PJ Harvey, Grumpster, The Hated, Apples in Stereo and more!

  1. Warren,

She was right about your voice. Broadcaster calibre.

  2. George Santos, some Conservative values…

  3. Harper is and was so many things. Politically loveable definitely wasn’t one of them. And he had nineish years in office.

  4. I hope the FSB chief can fly.

  5. Biden is being separated from his presidency, one classified document at a time.

    • Martin Dixon says:

Ha-again-still early on the document issue. I have a funny feeling they are likely all over the place. I imagine lawyers are currently crawling all over the Carter, Obama, Clinton, Cheney, Gore, Quayle, Harris and Bush residences. Not to mention retired and current members of various and sundry cabinets.

  6. If Trudeau wins, once again, Canada loses.

  7. Warren,

Once again, Kinsella speaks for Canada, or at least a plurality of voters:

    “Trudeau? Go.

    Go, go, go.”

  8. All of your podcast listeners will be praying and hoping for only positive outcomes for both of your families. We are with both of you in spirit.

  9. The next election metric: the face of a guy that so many people don’t like vs. the face of a guy that so many are thoroughly sick of. What a matchup. But one of those two will inevitably win.

  10. Martin Dixon says:

Own a bunch of Apples In Stereo. Strawberryfire my favourite by a mile. Another great track by The Hated. At the risk of losing all cred on music, there is nothing wrong with Madonna. The first radio station that played Holiday in Toronto was CFNY. They stopped pretty quick though. Bought it on import actually. Ray Of Light is great and could easily have been a Garbage(Shirley Manson and Butch Vig)track-think When I Grow Up.

On the Biden documents thing-I said down there somwhere that is was early and it sure seems to be.

My wife got her 139.75 carbon tax rebate in the last couple of days. Quite funny for a whole bunch of reasons but particularly given what has happened to our heating bill.

PP talks about inflation but he hasn’t presented any solutions. He’s disingenuous when he frames the issue – inflation is impacting the United States, Britain, Australia, New Zealand, Europe etc. The cause of said inflation aint pandemic spending, it’s supply chain issues, weather and the price of oil (oil dropped, gas dropped, inflation contracted). He offers up the obvious, inflation is an issue, but he doesn’t provide any solutions because his only advice is to buy into bitcoin – – – – – – bitcoin. Great idea PP. I gave my neighbor better advice a few years back when I compared bitcoin to tulips. Get it? some might –

    • Martin Dixon says:

He is not disingenuous. Every leader in all those countries has either lost, has resigned or will lose because of their out of control pandemic spending which was the primary cause of inflation. Some of the supply neck bottleneck problems were due to the pent up demand and all the money in the system that was unleashed once everyone realized that they were not going to die from Covid. So I am not exactly sure what your point is. I am sure the WEF types were all patting themselves on the back in Davos over the results last week as are those elderly women in Toronto pendant refers to who can now do a ridiculous CHIP mortgage on their inflated house values and keep batting their eyes at JT. And on the bitcoin thing, as Warren pointed out, that is NOT what he is talking about as much as JT would love that. They keep trying to bring it up in the HOC too. Meanwhile that ridiculous groupie Delacourt from The Toronto Daily Star is still so enamored by JT that she lets JT call PP supporters a bunch of white supremacists without challenging. All signs of desperation and I hope it continues.

Sri Lanka, Pakistan, also the war in Ukraine. Chinas zero Covid policy and reduced manufacturing capacity as a result – please. He isn’t talking about bitcoin because it’s just another of his dumb ideas he’d like for everybody to forget, but it highlights the whacky fringe he comes from.

        • Martin Dixon says:

So which is it? Is that all he is talking about or not? I hope you and the Liberals keep telling yourselves that is what he is selling.

      • Curious V says:

The zero Covid policy in China, and the War in the Ukraine have nothing to do with pent up demand – High oil is due to a lack of supply and development of new sources, Venezuela being off the market and OPEC are not the result of pent up demand

  12. Curious V,

All of the above are associated causes of inflation creation but the main culprit is the massive expansion of currency conducted by central banks around the world. That in and of itself is and has ALWAYS ultimately been massively inflationary. It’s not like central banks did not know this going in. Just look to previous inflation cycles and gauge the increase in the so-called “money” supply immediately prior to inflation pickups and takeoff. QE and versions thereof are economy killers and they have done their job incredibly well across the globe.

In this country, Trudeau gets to directly wear it along with the Bank of Canada given the dual mandate which Trudeau himself put in place.

    • Martin Dixon says:

Exactly right Ronald. People like Curious V have been listening to the CBC too much. They use the every other country has inflation excuse too(true but not relevant) and point to every cause except the printing of money. It is just math. Too much money chasing too few goods. Always ends badly and the sugar high is not worth it. JT has already proven he is totally incompetent when it comes to the finances-the budget will balance itself LMAO nonsense. And that was cast in stone.

“He has no idea what he is talking about.” No truer words have ever been spoken.

      • Curious V says:

You ignore every cause of inflation aside from those with which you can cast blame, at least Ronald is thoughtful in his response. Also, you said something about covid not being deadly – what do you read? How many people died, and how many would have died had we not taken sound public health measures to reduce the spread?

        • Martin Dixon says:

“Also, you said something about covid not being deadly – what do you read?”

Huh? You will have to show me that one.

And let’s review the record here:

“but the main culprit is the massive expansion of currency conducted by central banks around the world.”

          Ronald and I agree.

    • Curious V says:

So you would have allowed the economy to collapse – the great depression. When you’re at war you make difficult decisions and we were at war with a serious virus. We wouldn’t have faired as well under pp’s stewardship. Wacky ideas from a fringe. No good ideas or solutions, just more of the same fiction, conspiracy theory, way out there stuff that would drive us into a ditch

  13. Sean says:

The Flux Capacitor is from Back to the Future, not Star Trek! Biff says that Kinsellacast is as funny as a screen door on a battleship and that Warren should make like a tree and get outa here!

  14. Martin Dixon says:

At the risk of triggering those that have a strange obsession with PP’s hair and in response to those that think only diehard political junkies and Trudeau haters are paying attention to him, PP put out this video in response to the silly, ridiculous, fawning, sycophantish, eyes batting Delacourt “interview” in the “Liberal pamphlet”(reasonably funny but true characterization) where he called people like me a white supremacist. If the CBC is to be believed, it had been viewed over 2 million times by yesterday afternoon:

And comedy gold as usual from Rex:

    • Martin,

Knock me over with a feather if I’m wrong but the bored and disinterested guy sure is going to a lot of trouble to slam PP with the most outrageous and baseless allegations. Something tells me it means this guy is going nowhere. Good. It’ll be a lot more fun when we wipe the floor with him in the next election.

      • Curious V says:

PP veered to the right – the extreme right and he’ll answer for that in the next election. He caters to a ridiculous fringe of anti-vaxxers, anti sematic and anti-immigrant folks. If he panders to that crown, and is accepting of them, he can wear it in the next election, and I think it’ll be his downfall. It’s why I preferred Jean Charest.

        • Curious V,

It can go either way: like O’Toole, where the leader is eventually seen as not credible or like Nixon, where the move to the center leads to election and possible re-election. But as you say, voting Canadians will call the tune in the next election.
