Buh-bye

There should not be anything on the Monday agenda for any Liberal MP….. except for marching into JT’s office and demanding his resignation by the end of business hours.

  2. Peter Williams says:

Perhaps Justin will appoint Beverly McLachlin as his new rapporteur?

  3. Sean says:

They should release the short list of potential “Special Rapporteurs” who were passed over in favor of Johnston. If nothing else it would give us all a great laugh!

    • Douglas W says:

      Short list?
      Unlikely.

The PMO assumed that Johnston’s charm would satisfy the deplorables.

A few right hooks and upper cuts later, Johnston said: “no más”.

  4. Martin Dixon says:

David Cochrane on P and P said he was SHOCKED that he quit after that ridiculous puff piece interview he had with him after the hearing on Tuesday. He may have quit earlier if Cochrane would have actually asked him questions about the interview ON TAPE where Dave said he was BFFs with Justin. CBC is a joke. Sorry Ronald but the “news” division needs to be shut down or get off the public dime. And there is nothing wrong with calling for it.

Now they are talking about proroguing parliament.

    • Martin,

I prefer my idea: summarily replace all of the regional heads of news across Canada if previous bias can be reasonably demonstrated. The tone flows from the top especially when those people have nothing to fear accountability-wise.

    • As for proroguing, opposed it when Harper did it twice, oppose it now. But it worked like a charm for Harper given that he had far less political baggage accumulated than the current PM, an obvious simpleton.

  5. Martin Dixon says:

And his resignation letter blaming everyone but himself was pathetic. It will be interesting to see if anyone else will be stupid enough to allow a good reputation to be turned to shit because of a relationship with Justin.

  6. Sean says:

That weird haze over Toronto and NYC was all that was left of David Johnston’s credibility.

  7. Sean says:

Navigator is preparing a dynamite file for Anthony Bass!

  8. Sean says:

June 9th 2023. A great day for democracy on both sides of the border.

  9. Gilbert says:

I hope the PM realizes that peoople like his mother, Gerald Butts and Sheila Copps are not acceptable replacements. Now is a good time for him to resugn and let another person lead the Liberal Party.

  10. Douglas W says:

Trudeau’s not going to permit a public inquiry.
And let the truth be known that the Liberals knowingly benefitted from Chinese interference?

If the Liberals retain their two seats in this month’s by-elections, there’s a good chance we’ll be trotting to the polls this summer because …. Trudeau can do retail politics like no one else.

Because he’s still very strong amongst female voters.
Because the Liberals still own Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, and Atlantic Canada.

Because the economy is tanking and unemployment is on the rise, so why wait for economic conditions to get worse.

Better to hold the Conservatives to an uncomfortable minority government, and make their lives a living hell.

If I’m a Liberal advisor, I’d say: pull the pin, soonest.

    • Gilbert says:

I’ve seen polls that suggest the Liberals are in trouble in Vancouver because of the NDP.

    • Douglas,

They haven’t got the balls to go anytime soon. They know that their patronizing whitewash sticht doesn’t cut the mustard anymore. They will try to last as long as possible, just like the old man did in 1979. Worked out pretty great for him. (Well, welcome to the 1980s!, he said.) Go fuck yourself, I replied to the TV set.

      • Douglas W says:

        Clark was surrounded by bumblers.

Double P has a more savvy team.
        Will it translate at election?
        Will he listen to them?

        Remains to be seen.
But we know this much: Liberal support continues to soften.
Which, on reflection, suggests you’re right: they’re ball less.

    • Pedant says:

The strength among female voters is primarily among those 60+ who own homes and benefited from the Trudeau housing disaster. Younger women lean NDP.

And my sense is that the dislike for this government from men (particularly under 50) will more than counteract that.

Also, it will be interesting to see how the trans issue plays out in the Muslim community. This is a community of 1.8 million strong who previously voted reliably Liberal.

      • Pedant,

For haters, trans people are the replacement for turbins in the RCMP from quite a while back. Haters need to hate so they’re always looking for someone new to hate-on.

Meanwhile, ask any sentient woman and she can quickly confirm while relying on a man for anything of substance is a flawed political strategy at best. Enough said.

  11. Warren,

You were right all along. I hope Singh and the NDP squeeze Trudeau’s political balls until he screams uncle. After all of this, if this Prime Minister still refuses to call a full public inquiry, well, most Canadians will finally draw their own conclusions about him and his personal conduct. He’s better than boxed in now.

  12. EsterHazyWasALoser says:

As has been stated, history repeats itself first as tragedy, then as farce.

  13. Douglas W says:

Replacing Johnston: Bob Rae or Rona Ambrose.

  14. Warren,

Will HimselfTM ultimately be the next BOJO? You bet he will be! Just hang on for a little bit.

  15. Curious v says:

How to find a replacement that isn’t partisan, has never donated to a party, has never been involved with a party? Gonna be a challenge finding a replacement. Who would be acceptable top the conservatives? Nobody – you know, Poilievre could have had a security clearance and viewed the material, but he refused – even though he would have been able to come to his own conclusion – he could have disagreed, but he refused the clearance. Tells me he isn’t interested in reality, he just wants a big show for partisan ends.

    • Peter Williams says:

Who would be acceptable to Conservatives? Why not ask them? But Curious, why would Justin appoint anyone the Conservatives, NDP, or Bloc want. No he’ll find a good Liberal who will exonerate Trudeau.

      Security clearance? Poilievre has one.

If he views the evidence, technically he’s not allowed to comment on what he’s seen. As the Bloc leader says it’s a trap.

    • Gilbert says:

Jody Wilson-Raybould is acceptable. Will the incompetent, dishonest, unethical and arrogant PM appoint her? Of course not.

    • Douglas W says:

Curious, Poilievre has a security clearance.

    • Curious,

Pierre didn’t want a security clearance? Imagine that. After all, it’s not like the fix was already in now is it…

  16. Robert White says:

Imagine going from esteemed GG to Trudeau toady in
    one fell swoop.

I would have refused Trudeau’s request based upon how
obvious the partisanship was at face value.

How can someone so well versed with bureaucracy
    actually be that stupid?

Buh bye is an understatement. He just lost his place
in the history books IMHO. It’s sad.

    • Robert,

More like pathetic in my book.

    • Sean says:

Bureaucracy in the Public Service isn’t about street smarts… It’s about putting on a song and dance to bore the other bureaucrats into acquiescence… and to give the politicians some well articulated excuses for not getting anything done. In this way, David Johnston remains a marvelous success amongst Canadian Public Service bureaucrats.

  17. Douglas W says:

Johnston, hung out to dry by PMJT, just like:

    Jody-Wilson Raybould,
    Jane Phillpott,
    Bill Morneau
    Celina Caesar-Chavannes

    And let’s not forget:
    Vice-Admiral Mark Norman
    The Two Michaels

Must be others that I have overlooked.
This list looks way too small.

    • Douglas,

Now, Douglas, give him some more time: there are plenty of other names just waiting to be added to that probably already incomplete list. The gall of the man. But then again, he is a bona fide Trudeau after all.

    • Martin Dixon says:

An entire charity that was arguably doing good work.

    • Martin Dixon says:

Morneau deserved to be hung out to dry. The rest didn’t. He was done in my books the second he reversed his public position on increasing the OAS retirement age. Zero credibility. Overrated trust fund baby and dad made man who married into money. I know so many. Typical Toronto Liberal.

      From his book:

“Canadians are actually doing better than they think they are in their retirement planning — and are better off than many of the experts are telling us.”

The day he was sworn in as finance minister:

“Canadians aren’t saving enough to have a secure retirement. We’re not going to have a plan tomorrow, but we are going to start thinking about what the right way to approach it is tomorrow.”

He was drinking the kool-aid on day one.

  18. Martin Dixon says:

In other news, this looks like something from the Onion. These people should be in charge of nothing.

“Immigration Minister Sean Fraser, flanked by Rechie Valdez, MP for Mississauga, Ont., and Kevin Lamoureux, MP for Winnipeg North, announces the expansion of Canada’s visa-free travel program in the Winnipeg airport on Tuesday.”

    https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/canada-visaless-entry-system-crash-1.6872285?fbclid=IwAR3LCUuuafarZclAmVa29Cta9bAVhdcI_FVRcRARmRhPRIw42H7EHO4M5ZA

“I’m with the government and here to help.”

  19. Warren,

It was so nice, if not comforting, to hear from Dom that a full public inquiry has never been off the table. Is LeBlanc part of the same government as HimselfTM? I thought so.

    • By all means, Dom, just give me a call. I’m already the right eminent person to lead the “public phase” of a “full” inquiry. You’re welcome.

      • Martin Dixon says:

Ronald-Dom is the ultimate consigliere fixer. Any time he gets involved, you know there are big problems. He was the one who likely told Justin to hightail it to Ukraine. But he is no Tom Hagen.

        • Martin,

It’s actually a pleasant change to see this Prime Minister actually get one thing right. Is anyone betting on him getting something else right? Maybe two in a row?

          • Martin Dixon says:

Agree with Warren that the trip would have been scheduled weeks ago but I am sure the timing of the resignation(on a Friday while Justin was away) was intentional. I am sure there will be lots of thing for Rex to mock no matter what happens in the next election but he certainly has had no shortage of material the last few years.

“The announcement Johnston was leaving his post came on a late Friday afternoon — government’s chosen hour for “over the side” and “under the bus” or “walking the plank” political executions. Really, they should hoist a black flag on the Peace Tower past three o’clock every Friday afternoon just to give their “news dumps” the choreography they deserve.”
