    Great statement of condemnation.

It is Too often a show of force by Israel is condemned without the consideration that her opponents do not wish her to even exist. This is an awkward position for many lefties who speak for justice for the Palestinian people.

With Hamas always starting from a point where Israel should be removed from existence their grievances fall on deaf ears here. As this author notes there must be respect. No-one surely supports Hamas’ murderous tactics?

  2. Martin Dixon says:

Former ambassador to Israel taking a lot of heat from the usual suspects for suggesting that help for Canadians in Israel is not going as swimmingly as we have been led to believe.

One Tru-anon bot said that since she is no longer the ambassador, she has no skin in the game. The ironic thing about that comment is that her daughter is there so she LITERALLY does.

    A few things to unpack:

    1. This isn’t CUPE. This is one single local that has lost its f$*king marbles. I hope their membership starts demanding resignations. Notice the National Union’s statements are much more nuanced and generally in line with international expectations.

    2. Local Labor Leaders are not elected because of their views on international affairs. They are elected to bargain / advocate for more favorable working conditions for their members. Full Stop. That is the beginning and end of their jurisdiction / space of influence. No one cares, nor should they, what a union executive thinks about international affairs. Using their status as “Executives” for such a cause is an abuse of office and should not be condoned.

    3. Either CUPE supports these communications or it doesn’t. If it does, it should say so publicly and take the heat. If it doesn’t, CUPE should temporarily suspend this entire executive. Public apologies should be required in exchange for re-instatement. One thing CUPE absolutely should not do is offer tacit support through silence and hope it goes away.

    • Sean says:

CUPE should formally and unequivocally disown this bullshit immediately. That local executive should be suspended and / or expelled from the parent Union. Same with Fred Hahn.
