Prediction

After October 7, the political party which advocates for new Canadians “leaving their hatreds behind where they came from” is going to win a massive victory.

I’m hearing it everywhere.

Hasn’t such an approach always been regarded as racist and xenophobic?

If any party advocates such an approach, the CBC will go ballistic.

What I said. The CBC et al will say that the tip line idea will be brought back along with the banning of abortion and gay marriage and reintroduction of the death penalty for good measure.

    • Sean says:

I’ll never accept that. Canadian history is full of diaspora / settler communities moving past the problems of the old country. That’s the whole point. Sure, there are exceptions / flare ups…. but tolerance / acceptance has been the overwhelming reality for many decades, even centuries. Its one of the few things that has actually united Canadians and made our country livable. Suggesting otherwise is bullshit.

CBC’s credibility was lost long ago for the majority of Conservative supporters. I was a long time hold out, but now see them as nothing more than a latter day Pravda, regurgitating the current Gov’ts pablum without question.

I suggest that for the ordinary voter, (the 95% of Canadians who aren’t a member of any Canadian political party), the belief that “new Canadians should leave their hatreds behind where they came from” is gaining popularity. Like Mr Kinsella, I am hearing it everywhere too.

I suggest however the CBC reacts to this statement, it wont matter a tinker’s damn to those who believe Canada should not become a battle ground by proxy for those new Canadians with an axe to grind.

  2. Martin Dixon says:

It would be a two-fer if that same party left Christmas alone.

  3. WestGuy says:

Followup prediction: Those who say such will be labelled as anti-immigrant and therefore racist.

100% Warren. As usual, you are right on. I’m sure you are aware of the outrageous behaviour Mayor Bonnie Crombie was subjected to when she visited a mosque. In case not; here it is:

There is no place for this type of tribalism in Canada.

    • Martin Dixon says:

They wouldn’t even let her talk. Wow.

    • Sean says:

Harass a public official, any public official. That’s what is going on. Sigh…. Canada… as a country… has no influence at all over what is going on… much less a CANDIDATE…. For the leadership of a THIRD PARTY…. In a PROVINCIAL…. Legislature. Open a book please. Read about the distinctions between levels of government before you start yelling at the mayor of MISSISSAUGA.

  5. Sean says:

I’d like to see some aggressive protesting about the potentially lethal problems in Canada, IE homelessness, drug abuse and human trafficking.

  6. Martin Dixon says:

No pharma-care in update-doesn’t that break the agreement of the weasel coalition?

  7. Warren,

Don’t buy it. I don’t know about you but it’s my sense that much more work needs to be done with Canadian-born citizens, rather than foreign-born citizens, or permanent residents. Immigrants are easy targets for broad-brushed assumptions. IMHO, the largest piece of the problem pie rests with Canadian-born people.

Jennifer Keesmaat said on P and P that the new tax rules for Air BnB could have unintended consequences they aren’t considering. NO SHIT! I have been bitching about the twice extended deadlines now for the UHT since the geniuses at Finance came up with that birdbrain idea. Note I just got from one of my tax partners because of the update:

“- Elimination of UHT filing requirement for
    o Specified Canadian corporations
    o Specified Canadian partnerships
    o Specified Canadian trusts
Essentially 95% of the UHT filings that we did for 2022 will not be required for 2023 and future years.”

And, get this, the other 5% that still will be required to be filed paid a grand total of tax of, wait for it,…………..ZERO.

“Leave your hatreds behind…” resonates well. However, even Canadians with European ethnic backgrounds have a sense of familial connection to their past countries. For example, I knew a gentleman of Irish background (born & raised in Canada) who intentionally failed English history at school. Since this class was required to graduate, the following year he passed the course with a 50% plus 1 or 2 grade….
If multi-generation Canadians welcome new Canadians, then expect them to become “just like us”, we will all be disappointed. With that said, I have also observed new Canadians who in their work habits and ambitions, given 4 or 5 months in Canada, become “more Canadian than Canadians”.
If my rambling here makes no particular sense… so be it. We have a remarkable nation, with our own ambiguities. I suggest becoming Canadian also means accepting the responsibilities of citizens. Observing the GTA in Ontario, I suggest new Canadians are earning their place wholeheartedly.

    • EsterHazyWasALoser says:

Fair comment. We should never underestimate the nefarious attempts of home grown sewage agitators to fan the flames of these old ethnic tensions for their own despicable purposes though.
