Michael Bercier: don’t hire him. Don’t go near him.

Here’s what he sent to my friend, MPP Lisa MacLeod:

So, I wrote the organization that employed him. I said I was considering doing a story about it. Here’s what they sent back:

Dear Mr. Kinsella,
Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
Michael Bercier is no longer a member of the board of Apt613 and has no role in our organization. He has not been involved in the organization for quite some time. We regret that we had neglected to update our website in this respect and have since taken action to do so.
I would like to express in the strongest possible terms that the comments Mr. Bercier posted on X (Twitter) that you shared with us are wholly inconsistent with the values and principles upheld by our organization. The content of the post, which was both misogynistic and threatening, is completely unacceptable and reprehensible. We condemn such language and behavior unequivocally.
Apt613 is committed to fostering an environment of respect, equality, and inclusion, and any actions or statements to the contrary constitute a violation of Apt613’s Code of Conduct and Anti-Discrimination and Anti-Harassment Policy. I can assure you that should any board member, staff member, or volunteer make comments of a nature similar to those that you provided to us, our action to address them will be swift and decisive.
As an organization, we remain dedicated to promoting diversity, equity, and dignity for all. We will continue to uphold these values and work tirelessly to create a safe and respectful environment for our members, stakeholders, and the community at large.
Once again, we would like to thank you for bringing this matter to our attention.
Sincerely,
Jason Wood
Chair
Apt613 Board of Directors

I thought that was a pretty good response, and so did Lisa. So we’ll leave it there for now.

But fair warning: men who go after the women I respect? I’m coming after you.

Bravo Warren! Lisa is terrific and strong but the level of abuse levelled at her is unimaginable. We’re lucky to have her. No wonder good politicians just give up.

  2. Tim says:

Last paragraph of letter: why say “once again” in a written reply? It’s redundant, and therefore a pretty strong clue that something is being withheld, based on my experience.

  3. Martin Dixon says:

    Good job.

  4. Roy Eappen says:

Thank you Warren. Lisa and Joe are friends of mine.

  5. Warren,

And speaking of the psychologically deranged, here’s Conway once again hitting the nail on the head. What fucking guts.

    From Raw Story:

“What matters,” Conway added, “is that he [Trump] consistently uses apocalyptic and violent language in an indiscriminate fashion as a result of his psychopathy and correlative authoritarian tendencies, and because he’s just plain evil.” [Broadly smiling.]

    He [Conway] continued:

“It’s a classic trait and technique of authoritarian demagogues. He catastrophizes *everything* to rile up his cultish supporters, and to bind them to him, and to make them willing to do his bidding. That’s dangerous all around because he’s encouraging them to believe that conditions are so bad or will become so bad, and that the political opposition is so awful, that anything is justified—including law-breaking and violence—to prevent those conditions and to destroy the opposition.”

So, for Conway, “it doesn’t matter what he’s specifically referring to at the moment. He could be talking about trans people in public bathrooms or the state of the auto industry or the border—it doesn’t matter.”

“He’s a dangerous psychopath, and after more than eight years of watching his sick behavior, we must not give him the benefit of the doubt,” the attorney concluded.
