This will never change, so long as the knee-jerk reaction from the political center / left remains to shriek “American-style healthcare!” every time any proposal for improvement is put forward, and so long as a large portion of the gullible Canadian electorate believes that message.
The reality is that nearly every other developed country in the world has a parallel private/public system. No, not a private system like the U.S.. A system whereby there is a public health avenue available to everyone, but also private options.
The fact nearly every other developed country has a parallel system is why most developed countries have better healthcare outcomes than Canada. Yeah, we are better than the U.S. – so what? We are worse than most of our other global peers.
But instead, Canadians just stick their collective heads in the sand, and assume that dumping more money into the bottomless pit of the public health system will solve things. Ignoring the fact that approach has failed miserably over the past few decades.
