What can I say? I’m a big deal in China

Chinese press offer close coverage of G20, Hu visit

The visit of Chinese President Hu Jintao to Canada appears to be getting a lot of coverage in the Chinese press.

The China Daily website has several G20-related stories and there’s a lot of video and print coverage on the China Central Television website, too.

But there are always perils to reporting on tight deadlines at international summits like the G8 and G20 this weekend, as there is a lot of information to take in.

Case-in-point, check out the CCTV website photo of Hu alongside House of Commons Speaker Peter Milliken and Senate Speaker Noel Kinsella — though the caption says he is a guy named Warren Kinsella, the same name as a well-known Liberal strategist.

While both Kinsellas are known on the Hill, the guy in the photo is definitely not the latter Liberal.

    Warren,

Some may think that you are a relatively well known quantity already — but wait until you get your Irish up this fall!!!

It will be glorious and not necessarily for those who remain convinced that they have matters already sufficiently under “control”, or put another way, well “in hand”…

Do you mean the best is yet to come? Can’t wait! 🙂

        Allegra Fortissima,

Yes, provided we all do our individual best to reach our common goal. WE can make history but yours truly, and even W, can’t do it alone. Time to put our collective shoulders to the wheel and blindly focus on what has to be done to restore the Canada most of us happen to believe in.

    HaHaHa!!!

You look a little older, somehow.
    Must be the Iggy thing.

    Cheers!

    Raymond,

Remember, we are only as old as we feel. Might as well stop there and let W and M speak for themselves.

You are big deal in China? I see, China must have forgiven Warren Kinsella.

    Good.

Quips like “If it has four legs and is not a chair, has wings and is not an aeroplane, or swims and is not a submarine…” should be left to HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

Commoners like the rest of us bow and smile and say “Huanying”.

Or we take a “panem et circenses” approach, in this case more “circenses” than “panem”:

“But the illusion that these kind of summits are about big decisions is maintained by both sides. By the politicians who travel there and by demonstrators who protest outside. The meetings are really only interesting for those who take part. Whether they have any meaning at all for anyone else is written in the stars.” (The financial daily Handelsblatt)

Well of course your big in China. Shoeless Joe and Field of Dreams were big sellers over there!

You need to have a “edit” feature— that’s YOU’RE big in —- I just woke up

Personally, my favourite was when Carole MacNeil in a newscast mixed up Colin Kenny with Jason Kenney! I’m sure that whopper went over equally big with both me.

  8. Ronald O'Dowd says:

Oh God. …with both men. Thanks Warren.

    China now considers you o.k.

When I was there in October 2009, your website was not accessible. When I was there last month, your website was accessible. Congratulations!

I’m a big deal in Texas

  11. Ronald O'Dowd says:

    James Bowie,

I’m always a big deal in my dreams. I write the scripts, you know!

Sometimes though, I manage to lose creative control: dreamt of Harper, twice recently. Michael, in his usual modest manner, has yet to make an appearance. I trust he will manage to significantly work his way in — sometime this October!
