Double Bubble Trouble
January 12th, 2012, 4:55 pm

Around the 1:20 mark in the now-infamous video documenting the confrontation between a bubble-blowing activist and a really angst-y cop at Toronto’s G20 summit, a man appears to chide the officer, offering that “for a billion dollars I could have got someone with a better attitude.” That man ended up being the lawyer who would the defend the protestor, and when “Officer Bubbles” decided to sue YouTube and 25 commenters (all cited as “John Doe”), he offered them free legal counsel, as well. And then his punk band wrote a song about it.
“My first involvement was just as a resident of Parkdale,” says David Shiller, who drums in Shit From Hell, featuring former Hot Nasties members and big-time Liberal strategist Warren Kinsella, under the nom de plume of Winkie. “The incident happened right up the street from my house. Within about two minutes of getting there, the whole scene in the ‘Officer Bubbles’ video happened. I hung out, took a couple of pictures, and that was it.”

There was a clown named Bubbles once. I don’t think it was this guy.
Is that asshole still on the force serving and protecting?
Toronto must be hard up for cops.
Where can I get the tune?
In the link to the story!
Beauty! I’m not used to getting shit for free! Commie.
Warren – i had no idea you had the most amazing band name ever!
Do you live under a rock? On the other side of the world?
When I saw the video last summer, I almost stood up and applauded when that guy stepped in and defended the girl, and dropped the line about a billion dollars and a better attitude. Amazed – but not surprised – he’s a pal of yours, Warren. Good stuff. I hate cops like that.
I think that cop did a great jog of keeping his cool. She got exactly what she deserved.
How can you think it is acceptable to blow bubbles directly in someone face you don’t know and further more a cop?
That is called antagonizing someone, lack of respect and looking for trouble.
People like this have to learn repect the hard way, hope she had to stay in jail for a full day and think about
what a little brat she was.
Yes, Bill I guess that’s why Harpo is building all those new jails….to put the brats in. Jesus, do you ever think before you type?
Smelter, do you think it’s ok to antagonize the police? Your mixing to different issues with bringing up the new jails. This isn’t even a Lib vs. Con issue or activist vs. police issue. For me this is about being a brat with no understanding of respect.
Are you saying you wouldn’t have a problem with me blowing bubbles in your face all day(and you couldn’t walk away)?
He could have easily walked away, or handled it with some humour. Pulling the big macho cop routine was pathetic. It was some bubbles for fuck’s sake.
Bullshit, this has nothing to do with bubbles or the G20 smelter. Warren used a terrible example of trying to lay blame here. Where I come from if you want to be a smart ass and antagonize people you better be ready to deal with the consequences. Getting your ass kicked, kicking ass or going to jail is the most likely result of antagonizing someone. I’m suprised you think this is about fucking bubbles. Why would the cop walk away or handle it with some humour? This is not the cops fault. Smart ass brats deserve alittle jail time.
Respect is everything, you displayed it and you will receive it.
Great tune. Maybe Ford is looking for a personal security guard to chase the 22 Minutes crew off his property. A match made in heaven.
I agree. That is a great song, and well done.
You guys are getting pretty tight and polished for a Punk band.
