The Trump Regime’s first move (updated)

…to kill off ethics oversight, and gut democracy.

U.S. House Republicans vote to gut independent ethics office against wishes of top GOP leaders

WASHINGTON — House Republicans on Monday voted to eviscerate the Office of Congressional Ethics, the independent body created in 2008 to investigate allegations of misconduct by lawmakers after several bribery and corruption scandals sent members to prison.

The ethics change, which prompted an outcry from Democrats and government watchdog groups, is part of a rules package that the full House will vote on Tuesday. The package also includes a means for Republican leaders to punish lawmakers if there is a repeat of the Democratic sit-in last summer over gun control.

Some of us suggested 2017 would be much worse than 2016, as you will recall. Didn’t think it would get this bad this fast, however.

Oh, and Trump has decided to fight North Korea’s ICBMs via Twitter.

Great. Terrific.

UPDATE: They’ve done whiplash-inducing about-face, here.  But Trump continues to ramp up against China and North Korea, here.

Once my blood pressure came back down, it occurred to me the only thing I really find surprising about this is the total lack of subtlety (like all things Donald). What’s the first thing they do? Remove themselves from any being held to account.

So here’s the takeaway, to me: for those of us who were hoping for an impeachment (especially an early one), get ready for a disappointment if this passes at all easily.

hm, Trump tweeted, Republicans caved. They took their hand from the cookie jar, briefly.

    What utterly incompetent idiots.

If this is a glimpse at whats to come in the future then Republicans are going be their own undoing.

Winning big comes with responsibility and if they go nuts with it (which they now shown a propensity for) then they’ll unravel so fast that all Democrats have to do is behave like the Republicans did for the last 8 years.

Moving past the doom and gloom of Nov 8 2016, I’m looking forward to watching the circus of the GOP in Washington as they now become liable for their own behaviour. The interplay between the Senate, House and White House is going to be extremely volatile and unsustainable if this is how they plan to go about things.

Stephen Corbert and Trevor Noah had a great time with this tonight and it was very funny. its just another e.g. of how great that swamp is going to be. Can hardly wait to see what the Republicans will do next.

Of course the Republicans thought they could get away with this. They have a majority and until the public started phoning, they thought they could get away with it.

Trump’s actions in his past leave a lot to be desired. Guess those people in the House of rep. thought they could just follow his e.g.

With this as their first act, can hardly wait for their second act. Aemricans are going to be very sorry they elected this bunch, but hey you get the government you voted for and thus deserve.

On the up side SNL ought to be really good!

So, Trump is now the voice of reason? Oh, really?
