Biden O’Rourke

It’s the only way to beat that bastard in a country like the United States.

Zero chance today’s Democratic Party nominates two straight white men.

    • Fred from BC says:

For sure. They’ll nominate Biden and that wingnut AOC, then Trump will win again. Democrats never learn…

      • TJ says:

AOC will not be on the ticket for the very simple reason that under Article II, Section 1 (and the 12th Amendment) of the US Constitution, she will not be eligible for the office of President or VP until she turns 35 in 2024.

What that means in practice is that she can’t run for either office until 2028. So you’ve got lots of time to build your bunker.

        • TJ says:

Actually, now that I think of it, she would be eligible to run in 2024, because she would be 35 by Inauguration Day in January 2025, and therefore eligible. Better start digging!

“What that means in practice is that she can’t run for either office until 2028. So you’ve got lots of time to build your bunker.”

Why would a Canadian need to build a bunker because of that brainless twit?

(you do know where BC is, right?)

      • Ronald O'Dowd says:

        Fred,

The constitution sets the minimum presidential age at 35. Since the Veep is first in line in succession, AOC is excluded by law since she is only 29.

        • Fred from BC says:

Thanks Ronald, I didn’t know that. I wonder what the rationale behind that is? Why don’t we do it in Canada?

          • TJ says:

Have you ever looked at the Canadian constitution? You will search in vain for any mention of the office of the prime minister.

          • Ronald O'Dowd says:

            Fred,

We are far better at embarassing ourselves on the world stage than the Yanks. Course that was before Trump.

I imagine that life expectency in the Founding Fathers day was about 55-60, so 35 would make you mature?

“We are far better at embarassing ourselves on the world stage than the Yanks. Course that was before Trump.

Granted. Jean Chretien definitely had his moments, but that was mostly a language thing.

“I imagine that life expectency in the Founding Fathers day was about 55-60, so 35 would make you mature?”

That would be as good a guess as any. Makes sense…

    Hi Warren,

    You may have seen this;

Justin, being a working man, with rolled up sleeves and all, just keeps digging his hole. Guess he believes “L’Etat, c’est moi.”

  3. Ronald O'Dowd says:

    I’m for Biden 1000% percent.

But I worry whether Joe can make it in the reality of a 2019-2020 political context. Are his reflexive impulses and thought processes stuck in a political age gone by? That’s the neutron bomb risk with Biden — and it’s considerable. It’s not that Joe is a gaffe-prone machine, especially now in the era of Trump.

As for Veep: that’s a glass ceiling that is overdue to be broken, to quote Hillary in another context.

    • Ronald O'Dowd says:

      In short, IMHO, Biden-Harris.

That’s the way to successively shatter two glass ceilings.

      • Fred from BC says:

Or re-elect Donald Trump. Harris would be like a ticking time bomb (you think only Trump says embarrassing crap?).

  4. To beat Trump you need someone who will seriously address working-class economic anxiety, rather then somone who is seen as more of the same.

“To beat Trump you need someone who will seriously address working-class economic anxiety, rather then someone who is seen as more of the same.”

That’s exactly why Hillary lost, as I said here right from the start: the Rust Belt, after two terms of Obama and *zero* action to get their manufacturing going again, had simply had enough of being patronized and lied to by the Democrats, and saw (rightly or wrongly) another option in Donald Trump. They *might* have given Biden or some other candidate (even Sanders) a chance, but Hillary Clinton was just such a poor choice that they felt they had no option.

  5. Luke says:

Maybe. But Biden gives me the creeps. However, I’m Canadian so my opinion is moot.

Anyway I imagine term two is in the horizon for Trump. I figure the Mueller report probably needed to out him as a child murderer or something for him to lose support. But from the look of the headlines, there’s nothing exciting enough to make a difference.

  6. Derek Pearce says:

I don’t despise Biden but I think he’s yesterday’s man. I could see Harris-O’Rourke or O’Rourke-Harris. Buttigieg even though he seems like the best choice Americans just aren’t ready to elect to that office yet.

    • Ronald O'Dowd says:

      Derek,

That’s what we all thought about Chrétien when we were in the PC Party. I sure changed my mind, even voting for him and his party in an election.
