While I have little time for Brian Greenspan (it is his constant grandstanding in front of the assembled media that irritates me), and even less time for the PMO, let’s keep in mind that a lawyer’s role is to represent his client, irrespective of the character flaws of the client.

The article is the apotheosis of man-splaining. Hence misogynist.

He also never once mentions the operative constitutional convention of Shawcross. i.e. Any advice to the AG has to be solicited by the AG, not volunteered by others.

He also never mentions that a directive to the DPP has never been issued in a specific criminal case. A directive would be unprecedented.

    • Fred from BC says:

Nor did he bring up the fact that SNC-Lavalin clearly did not meet at least two of the necessary qualifications to be considered for a DPA (as written by this Liberal government, ironically).

  3. Dork in East York says:

Unfortunately far too many power brokers have represented tobacco companies, including Navigator and Canadian Strategy Group. Please tell me Daisy Group refuses!

  4. hugh says:

With Team Trudeau, the end justifies the means.

Maintaining power by any means necessary, no matter how dirty.

  5. Nick says:

It’s interesting how JWR’s silence keeps them up at night in a panic and how this causes them to keep this story alive (all the way to October). They just can’t let it go can they?

  6. They have a remarkable talent for making unremarkable strategic decisions. Need I say more?

  7. Zing says:

So from his comments, I take it Mr Greenspan would be entirely relaxed about Doug Ford leaning on a Crown to NOT drop a prosecution against one of Grenspan’s clients or to reinstate withdrawn charges? That would be fine with him right? Lol.

  8. ExHack says:

A simple google search shows he also defended SNC employees against criminal charges. Don’t see any record that he’s counsel for current matters, though he has quickly established a v. good reputation for white-collar defense.

Not that it matters. He is an excellent lawyer. Surely even you recognize that. Like Henein, whom you use, and who was mentored by Greenspan. Henein can represent Ghomeshi and Norman, without ad hominem insults. Ditto Greenspan .

  9. Joe says:

So now they are calling the pressure JWR was under “collegial conversations”.

Try number thirteen for team Trudeau. Each excuse is more stupid than the last one.
