My latest: Justin Trudeau likens black people to apes. Don’t let him get away with that.

An ape?

The video is grainy. It’s blurry, and it’s hard to make out who is in it.

But we don’t have to guess. The Liberal Party of Canada has confirmed to Global News – which released the video on Thursday morning – that it depicts Justin Trudeau, the leader of the Liberal Party and the Prime Minister of Canada.

Acting like an ape.

In the video, he’s covered (again) in blackface. He really worked at it, too: he made certain to smear dark make-up on his face, neck, ears, arms. Even his legs. We can see through the holes in his jeans that he did that.

There are three photographs, now, of Trudeau in blackface. One from his high school days in Montreal, and two from a party at the high school he taught at in Vancouver. With his hand on an unidentified young woman’s chest.

He was about thirty in that last photo. He was someone who taught kids – who was supposed to be setting an example for kids.

But we digress. Back to the video.

In the video, Justin Trudeau is seen for only a few fleeting seconds. There’s no sound. But it is unmistakable what the future Prime Minister of Canada and his pals are doing.

Trudeau’s acting like an ape. Sticking out his tongue, waving around his arms, shuffling around like a simian would, in a zoo or a jungle or something.

I showed the video to my shocked colleagues when they came into the office. Two of them are card-carrying Liberals. They agree with me: Justin Trudeau was in blackface, acting like an ape.

Now, why would he do that?

Brent Staples is a member of the editorial board of the New York Times. Around the time Roseanne Barr called an advisor to Barack Obama the progeny of an ape, Staples wrote an extensive study about that. About how racists like to depict black people as apes.

Like Justin Trudeau did.

Here’s Staples: “[It’s] one of the oldest and most profoundly racist slanders in American history…This depiction — promoted by slave traders, historians and practitioners of “scientific” racism — was used to justify slavery, lynching and the creation of the Jim Crow state…[It’s] the ape caricature.”

Throwing bananas at black public figures. Making noises like apes at public events. Calling Michelle Obama “an ape in heels.” It’s all aimed at one simple, incontrovertible message: that black people are animals. That they are less than whites. That they belong in cages.

At this point – and with the Trudeau in blackface leading newscasts around the planet – the evidence cannot be rebutted: the Prime Minister of Canada, as man and not just a boy, traded in the foulest racist stereotypes. He thought it was funny. He thought he could get away with it.

So, that’s him: he’s the scum of the Earth. He doesn’t deserve to be elected dogcatcher, let alone a Prime Minister of a G7 country.

Oddly, the issue isn’t him. It’s now the members of the Liberal Party. It’s us.

Will Liberal MPs now publicly condemn their “leader,” as I counselled two distressed Grit MPs to do this morning? They must.

And, Canadians, too, have a decision to make. Will we let him get away with it? Trudeau and his loathsome coterie are laying low, clearly believing this all will blow over in time. And it might, you know.

It is up to us – Canadians – to say: not good enough. Not on. Not this time.

Justin Trudeau – the goddamned Prime Minister of Canada – is on a video, this morning, joking that black people are, you know, apes.

This man is unfit. We, Canadians, must line up on October 21 and reject him and his ways.

We must.

  1. Pedant says:

    I’m bewildered, and perhaps naive.

Honestly, until the story about the Virginia Governor broke last year, I had never even heard of “blackface”. It had never occurred to me that people would put shoe polish on their skin to impersonate someone of a different race.

I’m not that much younger than Trudeau (39). Was this really such a common thing in the 80s and 90s and I was just utterly oblivious to it?

    • Pedant,

It goes all the way back to Al Jolson and even far further back than that.

    • Great Unwashed says:

I am in my mid fifties. That means I grew up in the 1960s and 1970s. I can assure you that even in those days, it was uncommon and very, very disrespectful to wear “blackface”. Only racists and fools did it, usually only someone who was both.

No one of my generation with an ounce of decency thought it was funny, or appropriate, ever. Not in the 1970s, 80s, or 90s. Warren, I’m sure you would agree?

Trudeau will get away with this insult, just like Trump gets away with the same.

In America, the 300,000 Republican Party Elites live by their own rules and are rewarded with the support of 66 million voters, election after election. As Trump once boasted, he could shoot someone on 5th ave and get away with it.

In Canada, the 300,000 Liberal Laurentian Elites have a separate set of rules to govern their behaviour, and 8 million sycophants in Ontario and Atlantic Canada willing to support them, no questions asked.

I was thinking of this old Bruce Hornsby song this morning. I actually cried thinking about what I would say to the young visible minority children I tutor each week.

Why do they have to live with a leader like Trudeau? “That’s just the way it is”…

“That’s just the way it is
Ah, but don’t you believe them
Said hey, little boy, you can’t go where the others go
‘Cause you don’t look like they do
Said hey, old man, how can you stand to think that way?
Did you really think about it before you made the rules?
      He said, son
That’s just the way it is
      Some things will never change
That’s just the way it is
Ah, but don’t you believe them
      Yeah”

    • Rashid Haddad says:

Ted Danson got burned years and years ago for showing up in blackface at some event. He was dating Whoopi Goldberg at the time.

      • Fred from BC says:

I remember that. He did a funny skit or something…I remember it being directed towards her somehow (birthday? Anniversary?).
I never did understand what the fuss was all about, since he obviously wasn’t expressing any racism of his own…

    • Walter says:

I’d say there are 3 separate eras.

The true Al Jolson style “Blackface” become unacceptable in the 50’s or 60’s.
Dressing with a generic “blackface” went out in the early 1970’s.
Dressing as a specific black with face coloured (i.e. dressing as Kareem Abdul Jabar with full Laker gear) went out in the early 80’s.
Trudeau’s first infraction of Harry Belafonte is forgivable in my mind – especially considering he was a teenager.
Dressing as a Black Aladin was wrong. Especially since there is no one Aladin, so the black was not needed for the costume. He was also well above 25 years of age. This was inappropriate for 20 to 25 years prior.
Dressing as with a black face and acting like an Ape was likely unacceptable in any of our lifetimes.

      • Janet MacLeod says:

Trudeau was at a masquerade party dressed as Aladin. It was a COSTUME!! How many children have gone out on Halloween dressed as Michael Jackson? Is that forbidden now too. What is politically correct now was probably not politically incorrect then. It may even have been socially acceptable. Judging people for past actions according to today’s social mores is grasping at straws. Was it wrong or in poor taste? Maybe? probably. Did he have racist intent-I think not. Vancouver is one of the least racist cities that I have lived in in Canada – for Afro Canadians. However there is a lot of racism against South Asians and Asians. I grew up and live again in Nova Scotia. We have a very tarnished history of racism against Afro Canadians in this province. Every person needs to look to their own heart and see what conscious and unconscious biases they hold against people who don’t look like them. But we can thanks our lucky stars we don’t live in the US.

        • Douglas W says:

Janet, Justin and his party have gone hard on comments that Opposition candidates have posted 5, 10, 15 years ago. Liberals says these comments (by Opposition candidates) warrant their immediate withdrawl from the election. Yet, when Justin’s past is revealed, he simply says I’m sorry; I’m pissed at myself; let’s move on. This is why people are dismayed with this current bunch of Liberals: they’re two-faced.

        • Scott Moody says:

it wasn’t a,masquerade party ….get your facts strait

    • Biggar Thomas says:

I grew up in England. I’m Black. I grew up with a TV show called “The Black and White Minstrels”. Google the show and look at the images. This show continued on UK television until 1978.

      • Vivian says:

I visited England in 1975 and saw that tv show. I am white and a.Republican and I was deeply offended. I wondered how the heck that thing was even on the air.

  2. John says:

Hi, great article, Mr. Kinsella. What I don’t understand is when people flatly say, “Trudeau will never resign”. How is it even remotely up to him anymore? Anyone else in any position/capacity/job would’ve been fired or forced to resign by now? He was already mired in numerous scandals (too numerous to list here) and dropping in polls. That will only intensify now, big time. He’s a “lame duck” candidate with zero hopes of re-election, and he’s only harming his own party. At some point, can’t/won’t someone high ranking within the party step in and say “enough is enough” and take the keys and steering wheel away from Trudeau? Investors, advocacy groups, someone, anyone???

I know Trudeau’s the party “leader”, but he’s still just essentially a glorified figurehead “CEO” employee of the party/company. Any other “company” would’ve removed him by now. Even CBS finally had to remove their CEO Les Moonves after all the mounting #MeToo allegations against him. Enough was enough, and enough is enough in the case of Trudeau. More than enough, in fact. Trudeau is a terminally flawed candidate at this point, to say the least.

The likes of Chrystia Freeland and Mark Carney have long been mentioned/rumoured as potential replacements for Trudeau. Either would be way more dignified, believable, respectable and believable than Trudeau at this point. Freeland has been touted as such by numerous media outlets. LPC could utilize her as a refreshing change/distraction/diversion away from all of Trudeau’s scandals, and anointing her would show LPC are serious about feminism, as they’ve claimed. They could tout her as potentially “the first female PM in 26 years”. She just might even win, even at this late stage of the game, given the circumstances. What are they waiting for? Wouldn’t it be at least worth a shot since it’s increasingly clear Trudeau won’t be re-elected? Nonetheless, keep up the great work, Mr. Kinsella. Best regards.

  3. Dork in East York says:

How many Liberal MPs are regretting putting “Team Trudeau” on their signs?

  4. Bill says:

What do you expect when you elect a boy masquerading as a man. Now we know he was/is masquerading as a person of colour. Not once, not twice, but three times that we know of. Are you happy with Trudeau’s explanation for groping a young woman – does it matter how long ago it was? Are all liberals and those who voted for him happy with this reality? Trudeau is an undeniable Racist, and a fake feminist.

Trudeau’s apologist are out in full force defending him! I ask this of anyone who’s defending him, what if the shoe was on the other foot?

Canada will never be back until Trudeau is gone.

Not As Advertised – who knew!?

    • Robert White says:

I voted for Trudeau and I, for one, am not happy whatsoever with the reality I am now faced with. It is so bad that I have switched allegiance to my area Liberal MP instead of our less than esteemed Prime Minister Trudeau. The cognitive dissonance I am experiencing leaves a bitter aftertaste of politics at the federal level. And my loyalty to the Trudeau dynasty of Canadian politics has been stomped on and crushed under the boots of Prime Minister Trudeau at his most unprofessional lack of education.

This whole incident leaves me wondering about the life’s lessons Trudeau senior managed to teach his progeny.

I’m not a happy camper anymore.

      RW

      • Bill says:

        Robert White:

Unless you local area Liberal MP takes over as the leader of the party, any vote for the said peoplekind MP, is a vote for Trudeau. I’m thinking you know this!

        No As Advertised

        • Robert White says:

My vote has already been promised to my area MP that canvased herself in my urban ghetto of high intensity row housing. I don’t ever go back on my word, ever.

          RW

          • Chris says:

If you can swallow all of this and all the other warts and STILL vote for Trudeau or his party then maybe it’s YOU, and not Trudeau you should be worried about. How far are you willing to go to justify the unjustiable? How much can you sweep under the bed? How awful does Trudeau have to behave before you would NOT vote for him? Where is your line in the sand? Racism? Obstructio of justice? Pedophilia? Murder?

          • Vancouverois says:

Was that before or after this scandal broke?

If before, then I would suggest – STRONGLY – that you are under no obligation to hold to it. Nobody can expect you to keep a promise made while such important information was being concealed. You were being deceived; a promise won under those circumstances is not binding.

      • Walter says:

So your local Liberal MP – who fully supports the racist Trudeau and his depictions of blacks and other minorities – is a good person.?

        • Fred from BC says:

“So your local Liberal MP – who fully supports the racist Trudeau and his depictions of blacks and other minorities – is a good person.?”

          Good question.

        • Robert White says:

Paradoxically, yes. My Liberal MP is worth standing by through all the damage control that could possibly be foisted upon any political party because she represents my riding, and she is an ethical politician that I happen to admire. She has done nothing wrong. Trudeau’s racism cannot taint my MP because I know she is well educated unlike Prime Minister Trudeau.

          RW

          • Walter says:

I think you miss the point.
Part of being ethical is calling out, and not supporting, a racist.

          • Gord Tulk says:

You cannot say she is ethical if she continues to support JT as leader.

Your dissonance can only be resolved in one way – to vote for a candidate who is not in the LPC.

          • Fred from BC says:

“You cannot say she is ethical if she continues to support JT as leader. ”

That was my take on it as well. The Liberals had plenty of time to remove Trudeau as their leader after he started becoming a liability (the SNC-Lavalin thing was the perfect opportunity), but they refused to even consider it.

            “She has done nothing wrong.”

No, Robert…she has. She supported and enabled Trudeau, and that was wrong of her.

  5. A. Voter says:

Trudeau’s behaviour is disgusting. But remember the aboriginal women who was attacked by a white man at a Liberal rally in Toronto? Was the white man ever charged with assault? People have been charged with threatening Trudeau online.
Canadians like to think racism lurks in the southern US states, but the fact that Trudeau can still have a political career shows us how deeply racism runs in this country.

    • Walter says:

Are you referring to the one where Trudeau and his supporters applauded when an aboriginal woman was removed from a fundraiser, or
the time when an aboriginal woman was shoved and Trudeau stood by and did nothing.

  6. lyn says:

You are right Warren. The Liberal party needs to throw him (Trudeau) out of the party right now…he is the scum of the earth! Trudeau has been calling people RACIST and he is the biggest Racist what a bigot!! THROW TRUDEAU OUT OF THE LIBERAL PARTY NOW!!

  7. Sam Y. says:

Agreed. Likewise every mercenary who help install Trudeau. All whites must go.

    “impossible to hate”

“contrasted with the slime oozing out of the White House, Trudeau continues to look positively angelic“

“win for Liberals again in 2019”

  8. Max says:

If I were a reporter, I’d be ready for Trudeau when he – yet again – says “I take full responsibility…” I’d be asking what does that even mean because he never does. In this case if he did “accept full responsibility”, then he’d resign. Immediately. Those same Liberals who owe their current MP seat to the Trudeau Tide from 2015, will lose those same seats in 2019 if they don’t jettison him asap.

    Justin’s gotta go. Because it’s 2019!

But I’m guessing he’ll want to “Choose Forward” like the slogan says because looking at his recent past ain’t pretty.

  9. bryan fraser says:

cbc reporter asking Scheer how long have you known have you been sitting on this.
Thats the question for Trudeau why has he and his war room sat on this, or maybe Scheer should ask her that question.
Why did it take a american media outlet to release this.
CBC and others spinning for Trudeau
BTW warren you nailed it again

  10. Steve T says:

Hard to know how to react to this. Yes, these were stupid things to do. Then again, it was nearly 20 years ago, and we all have done stupid things in our younger years.

There is plenty to critique JT and the Libs about, without resorting to stuff from 2 decades ago. This almost seems like a distraction that could benefit JT. If people are willing to forgive his youthful idiocy, they forget all the other more substantive and recent things he has done that are really damaging to the country overall.

That said, I really do enjoy when the virtue-signalling folks (typically those on the left) get a dose of their own medicine. Chastising your opponents on the one hand for abortion views from many years ago, and getting caught in blackface/brownface from many years ago. Reap what you sow, JT.

    • The Doctor says:

I agree with your last paragraph. It’s this perpetual cycle of virtue-signalling that drives me nuts when it comes to contemporary politics. And I think the internet and social media have made it exponentially more inane and irritating. Why can’t people just focus on issues?

But yes, Gerald Butts and his war room started carpet bombing the Tories with old clips of Scheer saying things that don’t play well now, etc., so this is kind of karma.

That said, if I had to actually put money on the result, my guess is JT will still be PM when this election is over. In any minority scenario, he’s still PM.

      • Doc,

You can actually imagine a scenario where the NDP/BQ/GP would keep him in office after all this? I can’t. They would blow entirely their respective cred if any of them did that.

      • Will Purcell says:

So, you’re expecting Jagmeet Singh to prop up Trudeau?

        Interesting.

        • The Doctor says:

I agree it will be interesting. But Jagmeet already boxed himself in by saying he wouldn’t support Scheer in a minority situation. What are his choices? There could be a lot of woke, progressive squirming going on in October . . .

          • Ronald O'Dowd says:

            Doc,

What comes to mind is Social Credit/Créditistes abstaining on Clark’s budget in 1980 and voilà!

        • Douglas W says:

Jagmeet Singh will prop up Justin because Justin will promise Jagmeet whatever he wants so JT can remain PM.

          • Ronald O'Dowd says:

            Douglas,

Jagmeet has finally found his defining issue that can take him and the NDP places. It’s like a gift from God. He’s not about to not make the most of it in the campaign and the debates. I hope Singh eats Trudeau’s lunch!

  11. Stephen Wood says:

any news on who the woman he is semi-groping is? She looks young enough to have been a student…..methinks more to come…

  12. Leo Fleming says:

Could you imagine if their was a Liberal candidate running and it came out that this person had appeared in blackface on three separate occasions. Gone in a second. But the rules don’t apply to Trudeau. The Liberals are a cult.

  13. Raj says:

Your analysis is always spot on. As a person of colour, I am speechless and quite sad. I do not know the future and what will happen on election day. However, his brand will never be the same and if I may, his friendship and closeness to someone you and I both admire: Obama. Be Well Mr. Kinsella.

  14. Don Johnson says:

Warren, obviously this is a scandal, but to me the way the SNC-Lavalin story was/is being handled is far worse. This is a social crime, bad enough as it is, but that one might involve “criminal crime” – and he is stonewalling on that one, with nary a peep out of the media. I wonder what it says about us that this one gets the ire more than the other one?

  15. Great Unwashed says:

There are two sets of Laws in Canada:
One for the Liberal Laurentian Elites.
    One for everyone else.

    And –

There are three types of people in Canada.
    1. The Liberal Laurentian Elites
    2. The massive number Sycophants in Ontario & Atlantic Canada who support them no matter what.
    3. Everyone else.

  16. eddie man says:

Hmmmm, time for Trudeau to find a matronly woman of colour to meet and hug and apologize tearfully and then hug and sob on her shoulder.

  17. Ian says:

The behaviour was all 18 years ago or more.

The lie he told last night, that it had only happened twice, was last night. Prepared comments, carefully planned. Stood up and lied the media, and so lied to voters.

How is that different from what Corey Lewandoski was claiming was fine?

  18. WestGuy says:

Okay here’s the thing that has me puzzled (apologies if someone else here mentioned it). Yearbooks are fairly easy things to access for research. Wouldn’t journalists have gone through all of his past yearbooks when he became Liberal leader at least and certainly when he became PM? To me, that sounds like standard operating procedure. Did the private schools refuse access or did anyone even try? I find it a little puzzling that someone so easy to research, like yearbooks and school newspapers, only surfaced now.

    • Zing says:

??? I don’t think it would be easy for me to locate MY yearbooks to review them. Locating someone else’s, as a teacher at a school no less, would take 100s of hours. Sure in hindsight it might be worth it but really, you think media orgs have that kind of funding?

      • Miles Lunn says:

My guess is whomever leaked it probably supported the Liberals in 2015, but doesn’t this time around as unless you went to the private school or knew someone who did, wouldn’t have that. So kind of like finding a needle in a hay stack. Only if you were at the event would you likely remember and have it leaked. Other possibility is maybe someone decided when doing housecleaning and finding their yearbook buried away to go through it and then noticed it.

    • Vancouverois says:

      That’s another thing…

How is it even remotely possible that the media didn’t catch wind of this much, much earlier – like 2006, when he first ran for MP? At the very least, it should have been uncovered when he ran for leader in 2013, as you say.

Even if they were biased in his favour, surely they would have realized it was bound to come out anyway?

    • Chris says:

You saw how quickly and thoroughly the media dropped the Kokanee Grope incident, NEVER to be mentioned again?

  19. Gord says:

Golden opportunity for Jagmeet Singh here if he plays his cards right.

I find it very amusing to watch all my Liberal partisan friends falling all over one another squealing “But he apologized! He apologized! Scheer never apologized for his speech in 2005 where he compared gays to dogs! (side note – he didn’t)”

So basically if Jim Keegstra and Ernst Zundel had only apologized, we’d be OK with them?

    • Vancouverois says:

Don’t forget – “It was a different time! People weren’t so sensitive then! He was just a kid!”

I continue to be amazed at the lengths people will go to in order to defend their own political side.

    • Fred from BC says:

” Scheer never apologized for his speech in 2005 where he compared gays to dogs! (side note – he didn’t)”

Yeah, that lie about Abraham Lincoln’s famous metaphor is still popular at Montreal Simon’s blog (and a couple of others I can’t remember the names of). The Trudeau blackface scandal is being blamed on “those dirty, filthy Cons!”, too….even though the Conservatives had absolutely nothing to do this it. ‘Porgressive’ logic is still a mystery to me, I’m afraid.

  20. Vancouverois says:

Watching his press conference right now.

“Systemic racism STILL EXISTS! In our schools! Today!”

    No kidding.

  21. Bill says:

So let me sum up Trudeau’s double speak today.

I was so rich “privileged” I had no idea that people of colour would be offended by me painting my face black and cavorting around like the poor little rich kid that I am. We (all Canadians not him remember) must do better. We should move forward and forget it. I can’t remember if there’s no more photos to come out as I don’t remember as it wasn’t/isn’t really that important.

Hope this help to summarize Trudeau, as it will make you puke listening to him.

    Not As Advertised

  22. The Doctor says:

I see that really, really hardcore Liberal supporters on my Facebook feed are faithfully defending JT. Predictably, I suppose, by trying to deflect. “But, but, Scheer!” Much like the Trump supporters and “But but Hillary!”

That really is the sign of the full-on shameless partisan zombie. No matter what your leader does, defend.

    • Fred from BC says:

“That really is the sign of the full-on shameless partisan zombie. No matter what your leader does, defend.”

That’s true, but then the other side of that would obviously be this: no matter what your opponent does, attack. Equally lame, isn’t it?

  23. jen says:

Wowsers….I wonder why this is suddenly coming out now and not previously…as in the 2016 election. Were there not strategists/hacks/researchers/journalists around to dig up dirt on party leaders back then?

  24. Bill says:

So let me sum up Trudeau’s double speak today.

I was so rich “privileged” I had no idea that people of colour would be offended by me painting my face black and cavorting around like the poor little rich kid I am. We, all Canadians (not him) must do better.

Hopefully this will save you from listening to him like I did – almost puked!

“Apparently Tom Mulcair just referred to all this on French TV as “L’Affaire SNC-Aladdin”. ”

That’s good one. I miss Angry Tom.

      • Vancouverois says:

Isn’t it, though? I wish I’d thought of it.

I don’t miss Angry Tom, though. His pro-separatist policies (which do continue in the NDP to this day) disqualified him, and I would not want to see him back to push them again.

He must be feeling a lot of schadenfreude right now, though.

  26. Christoph Dollis says:

“We, Canadians, must line up on October 21 and reject him and his ways.”

Full disclosure: I would not vote for the LPC anyway.

However, there’s another option: Why shouldn’t your party band together, force him out, put in place a new leader, and go to the polls based on your record and plans for the future?

  27. Ray says:

First time poster, long time reader here.

I am embarrassed to admit, I was guilty of woeful misjudgment.

Not regarding Justin, mind you. I always thought that “an eloquent eulogy at his dad’s funeral does not a future political leader make” (remember some pundits at the time gushing over the possibility of a future in politics for Justin re: that eulogy?). I always thought he was in way over his head and that he coasted on his family name, his privileged upbringing, his looks, etcetera, and that it masked his inexperience in life and in the realities of the real world and of politics, the latest evidence of which being the grotesque photos and video that were recently revealed (sort of the icing on the cake). No, I kinda had Justin figured out. I didn’t, and never would, vote for him (even more so now), but I sort of tolerated him, because “hey, at least he’s not/wasn’t Harper”. And I also continued to somewhat tolerate Justin because “hey, at least he’s not a vulgar POS like Trump”. Oh, the irony.

And for the record, despite my many, many disagreements about his policies, I will admit that Harper never embarrassed himself personally or made Canada a laughing stock in the eyes of the rest of the world, in such a manner as JT is currently doing. I’ll give him that.

No, I regretably misjudged you, Mr. Kinsella.

I had this perception of you that, to my eyes, you seemed (again, to my faulty perceptions) to give off the appearances of trashing anyone who rejected your offers to help in their election campaigns and ignoring your experience as a veteran and savvy political pro. And I had gotten this misguided notion that it was “sour grapes” on your part to be so highly critical of those who allegedly may have rejected your advice and wisdom.

Well, Mr. Kinsella, I will freely admit that I misjudged you and that I was wrong about you. I feel guilty that it took photos (and now that video! SMH!) of our PM acting like a vulgar idiot to metaphorically sort of whack me over the head and to make me realize that you definitely know what you are talking about and that I had misjudged you. For that, I apologize to you. And if I ever get to meet you, I’d like to apologize again, shake your hand and buy you a beer.

You were right all along. Justin Trudeau is severely lacking in character and in judgement and is not (and never really was) fit to be PrimeMinister of Canada. You were shouting that fact from the rooftops and all the die-hard Liberals still conveniently ignored the realities of JT. But then again, you’ve never played nice, and yes, that’s a compliment (once a punk rocker, always a punk rocker! Right?). Yep, you called it. And you don’t have to post any of this, but I feel I had to say it anyways. I’m sorry, Mr. Kinsella, for misjudging you. So, what’ll it be? Moosehead? Guinness? I’m buying!

    • Robert White says:

I have to sheepishly agree with everything Ray has said and admit that I misjudged Warren as well as he was shouting from the rooftops. I saw him shouting too so I know I’m not blind. Unfortunately, I am still pretty naïve when it comes to believing in inauthentic plastic politicians that pretend to be progressive Marxists. Thank you for enlightenment vis-a-vis Prime Minister Trudeau’s incongruent persona and Liberal Party marketing campaign falsehood, Warren.

And sorry for doubting you too.

      Robert

    • Martin says:

We can only hope that, finally, this is the tipping point on this guy. As I have mentioned here before, I think, you can’t get much more conservative than me but I would have voted for Mulcair in a heartbeat over JT if we could do that sort of thing with a ranked ballot. Would have been vehemently against his policies but at least he was qualified.

    • Nick says:

Well said Ray! Although this may sound arrogant of me, and I sincerely apologize if it does, Warren’s ongoing message has resonated with what I knew in my heart to be true, that Trudeau is not and never was intellectually or emotionally mature to be PM and did not deserve to be elected to the job! When he was elected I recall bracing myself wondering and waiting when shoe would drop. What has surprised me is how systematically and spectacularly he has managed on all fronts to gut this Country and it’s reputation, not to mention his father’s name. When he was elected in 2015 by such a majority what dismayed me the most was that so many Canadians lacked the powers of discernment and instead fell prey to their Trudeau hero fantasies. As individuals I strongly feel we each need to self reflect, reconnect to the guiding inner voice of truth living in all of us, embrace it thus remaining grounded and resilient to such manipulations in future.

  28. Christoph Dollis says:

Someone’s got to make a “Downfall” Hitler-in-the-bunker type portrayal of Trudeau and the LPC war-room over this.

  29. Steve Forbes says:

And despite Global’s best efforts to cut away in time, there is also something CLEARLY stuffed something down his pants to make sure that black stereotype was also well represented. No one’s talking about that tho are they?

  30. Douglas W says:

Expecting big surprises on election night because people are tired of being told what to think.

  31. HELENE SHAW says:

It goes back to around 1830’s and the “minstrel” shows…

  32. Walter says:

I am not certain that Trudeau was trying to act like an ape.
I thought it was more acting like a savage – also not a good look.

In any case, I don’t think this will change the Liberal election strategy that much. The goal is to ignore the intelligent voter and try to appeal to the shallow voters who don’t pay attention to anything.

    • Ronald O'Dowd says:

      Walter,

As usual, they are off target because those people aren’t even remotely paying attention and therefore quite logically, likely won’t vote…

    • Fred from BC says:

“I am not certain that Trudeau was trying to act like an ape.
I thought it was more acting like a savage – also not a good look. ”

No, but if he really did stuff something down his pants then that makes his real meaning crystal clear (and pretty damn disgusting as well).

  33. Christoph Dollis says:

For goodness sakes, his father was one of Canada’s longest serving Prime Ministers, the Liberal Pierre Elliot Trudeau. Are you telling me his son knew nothing about blackface being inappropriate? What, was Justin, this rich future teacher turned Prime Minister uneducated or something? No F’n way.

  34. Philip Hauser says:

This seems inevitable there is a report today of a BC liberal candidate having signs “vandalized” with his face being coloured with black marker. Stephen Fuhr says “It’s really sad,”
“I don’t take it personally from the perspective of they’re attacking me, personally … They’re trying to tie me and this campaign and my efforts in this community to the bigger conversation that’s happening with the prime minister”
BY NOT CONDEMING THE PRIME MINISTER YOU ARE TIED IN!!

  35. Zing says:

He’s W.! He may have some better policies, but he’s W.! We knew he was like W. because he only obtained his position because of who his daddy is but apparently it is deeper than that.

  36. R Day says:

Why has no reporter delved deeper into why Trudeau suddenly left his Vancouver teaching position in mid term?
Was Trudeau’s departure related to his long time friend and college room mate, Christopher Charles Ingvaldson, and fellow teacher at West Point Grey Academy?

    • Huff Duff says:

Wasn’t too long after the Kokanee grope, was it?

I’d bet the mortgage payment his sudden departure had to do with choosing forward with unappreciative female students.

  38. Christoph Dollis says:

What your party should do, if it had some vision, is draft Jody Wilson-Raybould as your leader during this election.

She’s widely respected and seen as having guts and integrity. Politically, for what it’s worth, she’s a woman of colour. She isn’t just a woman of colour, by any means, she’s highly accomplished. As a woman of colour, however, she was mistreated by the Prime Minister in particular.

If she’s your leader in this election, you take away the two scandals Trudeau created and thrust the woman of colour and accomplishment, with integrity, who stood up to the Prime Minister, whom even Conservatives and NDPers respect.

That makes you competitive and win, lose, or draw, you go into the next election with a party that has demonstrated it won’t stand for corruption and racism and, in fact, chose a leader who was precisely the opposite on each front.

  39. Susan Manderson says:

It’s taking us here at home the last 2 days to absorb all this, it’s incredible. I mean – I thought a sex scandal might eventually bring Trudeau down, but I never expected this, and I never expected something on the scale of the Flanagan burnout only bigger. I never thought he was quite that stupid; although I’ve been shocked at his behaviour in the past year. He really is nothing but trash.
    Do watch Trevor Noah.

Staying off social media but reading twitter and I noticed this, an account named @KissellarWarren, name Warren Kissellar, with the same logo. It had me confused for a few minutes, until I read further. I’d have reported it, but I’ve cut myself off twitter.

  40. Susan Manderson says:

Inexcusable; and I’m wondering what’s wrong with him to cover himself with such dark makeup, right to arms and legs, what was the point in that, as Trevor Noah says. It seems too that while it’s all bad – he’s more derogatory towards black people than he is towards Middle Eastern or East Asian people, maybe because he can use them as props, or maybe because his father was more interested and accepting of them than in black people. I really think it has to go back to the parents.

He’s shown himself to be a bully with a bad temper while Prime Minister, no doubt in my mind now that his behaviour towards Celina Chavez was racist. Celina is someone very capable and confident, was not being named to Cabinet, and probably found it galling to see who he did put in Cabinet. I mean when you think about it, she was overqualified compared to some others. And his treatment of Tootoo was appalling, and JWR – all these people are disposable to him, they’re props.

Andray Domise called him a racist, or white supremacist, quite early on, when JT made a super clunky remark about rap music. I’ve forgotten exactly what it was – but I guess it was an early warning. At the time I thought he showed how sheltered and out of touch he was, but didn’t connect it to racism. It goes to show you that the people who are targeted are the ones who really know a racist when they see one, before anyone else.
I’m just blown away by all this. He’s a creation of Gerald Butts.
I see too that the troops are being coached in how to spread the blame around:

The remark by Steve seems inappropriate. Can it be deleted?

  42. sandunga says:

Someone get insulted by that ‘blackface’? I beet that lives in a first world country with actual african population, and full of racists and hipocrites.
In countries where roman catholics are mayority, as latinoamerica, everyone will see on that pictures a representation of biblical magi.

  43. Ronen says:

If you look at the video acquired by Global of the Prime Minister in blackface, doesn’t it look like he has also stuffed something down his left pants’ leg to look like a large penis. If so, it would certainly heighten the racist character of that get-up.

  44. N. Corby says:

His hand on the chest of a young woman is just as disturbing. Not to long ago He was accused of groping a young woman at a festival of which he smugly dismissed. Let us remember he was a drama teacher! He has his hands on the shoulders of the 2 males he posed with why was the same respect not paid to his female colleague. Or was he above workplace ethics?
