NDP ad: this is really good

And their slogan – In It For You – is way better than the ungrammatical word salads the Grits and the Tories have conjured up. Way.

As I just told Evan Solomon on CFRA, everyone is dancing around the real problem Jagmeet Singh is facing. And that problem is racism, full stop.

That’s partly why this ad is so good. It shines a spotlight on their biggest challenge, and it works.

Well done, Dippers.

I wouldn’t dismiss it as a factor, but how would you know? He has other liabilities, starting with the fact most people don’t know who he is. Twenty Sikh Canadians were elected to Parliament in 2015.

    • Fred from BC says:

I would agree. He seems to be a knee-jerk reactionary, resulting in more than one incident of demonstrably poor judgement. In fact, he will no doubt play the race card at the earliest opportunity, that’s how bad his decision-making skills are.

One flakey, wokebot leader is enough. Why vote for a wannabe Trudeau when you can vote for the real, fake thing?

  3. Chris says:

Jagmeet hasn’t bothered to visit New Brunswick since his elevation to NDP Leader, and now many NB candidates and party members are abandoning him for the Greens. They only have 4 or 5 candidates in all of Atlantic Canada. But hey, he is young and dresses really swell!

agreed… excellent example of spinning an implied weakness, hanging your hat on it and using it as an advantage. Well done.

p.s. – f$%k the defectors in NB. Its people like them that cause good folks to avoid party politics altogether.

I always thought the left was to have a “Together” theme.

I’m at complete odds with Focus Group data regarding this slogan.

In it for you, sounds to me to be individualistic. Like it’s tine the government thought about you, and not always taxing you on behalf of the needy,

I am probably wrong l, jn

I think the ad is fine and the slogan is probably the best of the three. The Conservatives’ slogan is a real dud; clunky, forgettable, and too long. The Libs’ one is okay, at least short and to the point, and the Greens’ is alright too I think, although that start-stop aspect of it is a little strange to me.

As for race/religion issues, I’m sure that’s a factor for some people and probably more so in certain regions, but the seeming non-existence of the NDP for a year or more after his election as leader is a way bigger problem, and I don’t know they can be convincing enough to fill their own void.

I’m with you on that. I think Singh was vastly overrated and untested in the first place when the NDP membership went all gooey on him and elected him leader. But the bigger problem is that the Liberals, Greens and NDP are all essentially fishing in the same progressive pond these days, and it’s difficult to stand out when you’re doing that. JT got there first and Jagmeet just looks like a JT wannabe as a result.

    • I’ve wondered if the lack of coverage of the NDP because of thier failure to put out press releases or spokespeople commenting on the issues of the day, or the media’s failure to cover them.

      • Peter says:

Ah, The Dipper’s Lament. We don’t win because: a) the media doesn’t cover us; b) the other parties have no principles; c) the voters are too racist; d) Big Money slanders us; e) democracy in Canada is undemocratic, etc. etc. You folks really do think awfully highly of yourselves, don’t you?

        • We try to do our best. Most of those are genuine problems faced by the NDP, but not the Liberals and Conservatives.

          • Peter says:

Fair enough, but please park the notion you are all a nobler species of homo sapiens.

Here is what I think is your real problem: there are a great many Canadians who want their NDP loud in voice, but small in number.
