Scheer by the Numbers

Oh, and trying to fire Dustin van Vugt, perhaps the most-liked guy in his entire party? Really stupid.

The circular firing squad continues….when your political opponents are busy destroying themselves, whatever else happens don’t stop them. There are things that need to be aired publicly, and there are things to be resolved behind closed doors. How these matters are addressed separates the professionals from the amateurs.

      ER,

And Scheer’s leadership was supposed to be fought out in public next April? No, they needed him out now, to avoid a huge public spectacle at the convention.

I believe in following the rules. The rules are that there is to be a leadership review after an unsuccessful election campaign. How is the current public spectacle of a party engaging in bareknuckle brawling and backstabbing helping its public image? As I stated earlier, the professionals keep the loudmouths gagged and run a tight ship. That is one of the reasons why one party usually forms government and the other usually forms opposition.

          ER,

I can tell you that Scheer was the walking-dead the moment Alleslev became Deputy Leader. What an idiot to make that kind of highly provocative appointment. It was like waving a red-flag in front of caucus and spitting in the membership’s face. After that farce, Scheer was done as dinner.

Exactly my thoughts on the matter.. The rules are there for a reason, and the current public spectacle does nothing but make the CPC look amateurish. The Liberals must be sending thank-you cards to their friends in the media…

          • Fred,

Like the Martin-Chrétien feud really keep that party together. Different parties, same sauce. Remember Turner vs. Trudeau, Chrétien vs. Turner?

I remember those, yes. The dumbest one of them all, to me, was the Chretien-Martin one…because it was so damned unnecessary and came at a time when the right had just begun to get their act together.

Please. He resigned because at least 50% of the members of the Conservative Party were wiling you walk up to him and stab him in the chest.

    • WCJ,

From what I hear, it was a hell of a lot more than 50%. Say what you want about Kory and Jenni but they smelt the wind correctly.

That was assured even before the election, given the way he was elected leader. Thirteen ballots? You know something is wrong…
