#JoeMentum on #SuperTuesday!

You said he couldn’t do it.

Quite a few of you, in fact. You know: Joe Biden will never win the nomination, it’s all over, he should quit, etc. Some commenters even said he had dementia or some mental illness – which got those commenters blocked (and will again in the future, I promise).

Well, he did it. Last night, Joe Biden won big. Hell, he won in states that he hadn’t even visited. States where he hadn’t run any ads.

I was glued to the results all night, and recording my reactions on Twitter and elsewhere. The night began, as it always does, with my exchange with a famous CNN news anchor:

After the Nevada caucuses (but before the Clyburn endorsement) Biden was finished. A week ago. Today, he’s consolidated the non-Sanders vote, and is the front-runner for the nomination. Has anyone (among the savants on this site) ever seen a turnaround like that?

And how does a protester get onto the stage with Biden in Los Angeles, on Election Night, in the California primary? Does anyone have a faint clue about anything that happened before 2000? Jill Biden is tough, but it’s really not her job.

John Kerry 2004 and John McCain 2008 spring to mind.

Both the Kerry and McCain turnarounds were indeed impressive. At one point in late 2003, Kerry was polling behind Al Sharpton, and the field was crowded. That said, he won in Iowa, so his comeback didn’t come after a string of losses. McCain was also in rough shape, and lost Iowa badly, to Sarah Huckabee Sander’s dad. His bounce back to win New Hampshire over local boy Mitt Romney is possibly in the same league as Biden’s. I’d argue that the string of losses–bad losses–suffered by Biden before he started winning puts him at the top.
