My latest: the UnElection

It’s unnecessary. It’s unwanted.

And it’s been imposed on us — commencing this weekend, according to a Reuters report — by a Prime Minister who is unfit.

Because, make no mistake: Unfit he is. Untrustworthy and unethical, too.

He swore he was a “feminist” while neglecting to mention to other Liberals that he’d groped a woman in BC. He pledged to fight racism when he’d remained silent about video evidence that he’d worn racist blackface multiple times.

He insisted he’d be scandal-free and then he became the first sitting Prime Minister to be found guilty of violating federal statutes. Oh, and his myriad other promises, like balancing the budget or getting clean water to Indigenous people?

Those were all untruths, too.

He’s the UnPrime Minister. And this will be the UnElection.

Because we don’t want an election now. We don’t need an election now.

Vast swaths of the country have been literally on fire. Thousands have been forced out of their homes, or — like my brother and his family in rural B.C. — they are waiting for the order to evacuate.

The situation has gotten bad enough that people in Nova Scotia have smelled smoke — smoke that has wafted East from far-away BC.

And the virus, the cruel, unkillable virus. It’s surging again, pretty much everywhere. And Canadians are getting sick again — and some are dying from it.

In the past week alone, due to the Delta variant, Covid infections have exploded by 60% across Canada. That’s the worst it has been in months.

As former Justice Minister Jody Wilson-Raybould put it on Twitter, it’s the “#DeltaElection.”

And into this morass Justin Trudeau wants to force an election? Why?

Because he thinks he can win back the majority government he squandered. Because he thinks his opponents aren’t as good as him.

Because of his ego, essentially.

His ego is immense. It is vast. It is without limit. He is known to sit on government jets, reviewing his Instagram photos. Not his briefing books.

And the evidence was right there, for all to see. For months — and as this newspaper regularly documented — his vaccine acquisition effort was an unmitigated fiasco.

He tried to do a deal with a hostile foreign power, the Chinese while the Chinese were illegally detaining two innocent Canadian men. And when that vaccine deal predictably fell apart, he hid the evidence from us for months, thereby losing critical time. And Canadian lives.

For months, we lagged far behind our allies in vaccinating citizens. And we are only now near the front of the vaccination pack because of the determination of Canadians themselves, not the feckless, reckless Prime Minister.

His record, his performance, his values all combine to produce one irreducible, irrefutable truth: he is unfit of the high office he has held, improbably, for half a decade. He is unqualified and unfit.

Is he unelectable? Only you, Canadian voters, can answer that question.

Because the unElection is about to begin.

So you were totally wrong about Cuomo but you are totally right about Trudeau, eh

    • Gary says:

Trudeau has been proven to be mentally unqualified for any kind of office. It’s a prima facie case that needs no explanation. Just listen to him try to speak, it’s like Trump on steroids.

      • Campbell says:

If the CPC believes most Canadians share this view, and goes hard on this theme, they will lose spectacularly.

        • Gary says:

If most Canadians don’t share this view, then they are imbiciles just like their little boy emperor.

The evidence is right in front of us. Every rambling, monosyllabic press conference, every stammering speech, and every time he gets cowed and humiliated in HOC debates.

He’s just not that bright and comes across as a coward. Tie that in with his bag-carrying for Beijing and rumors of creepy behavior, and you have what in a sane world would be a CPC majority.

          • Campbell says:

Well, good luck winning while telling the people you need to vote for you that they are imbiciles, I guess.

        • The Doctor says:

Yes, that’s a bit much. Gary might want to turn down the hyperbole a tad.

          • Gary says:

How is it hyperbolic? Show me where I’m wrong lol. Are you trying to argue that the kid is some kind of savent?

          • The Doctor says:

Gary, I’m the farthest thing from a Trump supporter, and I’m not a fan of JT either. But equating Trudeau with Trump to any significant extent is just ridiculous overreach.

If you want to defeat Trudeau, you do so on the merits, and there’s plenty to criticize there. But he’s not anything like the menace that Trump was and is. Just for starters, what Trump tried to pull off on January 6 was basically what Hitler tried to pull off in Munich in 1923. In terms of threats to institutions, democracy and rule of law, the US is in far worse shape than we are. Which of course doesn’t mean that we should stop being critical here when warranted.

        • Campbell,

Here’s the main arc of the CPC campaign: Trudeau believes he can play voters for idiots and that we will willingly bite. That why he’s constantly trying to buy our votes with our own tax dollars. And surprise, surprise, what a coincidence, right after the election in comes by magic the swarm of CRA auditors to take back the CERB and other emergency benefits. Naughty Prime Minister! Thank God most Canadians are far brighter than he is.

          • Campbell says:

I guess that explains why they’ve elected him twice ‍♂️

          • Ronald O'Dowd says:

            Campbell,

Yes, they elected his party twice, the second time with a diminishing number of seats. Spot the trend and its likely direction do you?

  2. Sean says:

Canadians have no choice but to bow their heads and slovenly drag their asses to the polls to mark an ‘X” in favor of corruption… in order to save abortion. Its no wonder the rest of the world looks to Canada for guidance.

    • Nick M. says:

I have to give Trudeau credit.

He is outright honest that there is no need for this election. There is no new reason he needs a mandate.

This election is about his own vanity, his ego, and he ain’t denying it.

    • Ronald O'Dowd says:

      Sean,

I can only imagine you are being sarcastic. O’Toole, just like Harper, yes, EVEN Harper, won’t go anywhere near abortion, period. There will be absolutely no government bills that affect or threaten a woman’s right to choose. Ask Erin, or better yet, ask Michelle Rempel-Garner. O’Toole is pro-choice.

  3. Sean says:

$ 60 million for “emergency relief” for the media. The level of blatant, naked corruption is staggering.

  4. John powell says:

Generally I am 50/50 with your commentaries. And you did work for Biden , as sad a reflection on USA politics as anything, cruelly using him , obviously with health issues, as a front for a left wing regime . There is
no doubt we don’t “ need” an election. But as you have written, the continued destruction of our westminister parliamentary system etc by PM Trugrope needs to be fixed. Quite apart from crushing our economy with extreme profligacy. If an election will dump him
    now , so be it.

I didn’t think he would get back in last time .

Hopefully you are wrong this time and the Trugrope liberals will be treated as the Wynne liberals were

I think that if President Biden’s own family members stand behind his presidency there is no medical reason that would prevent Warren from supporting him too in so far as it is doubtful that his own family members would use President Biden as a meat puppet for self-aggrandizement of any sort.

President Biden is perfectly capable of acting on his own volition. Is Warren to stop support because of ageism & discrimination against people that are not in short pants catching farts for the middle age cohort instead?

Warren assisted admirably to rid our midst of the Orange menace. It worked, thank God.

      • Amen Robert, but frankly, I don’t know about Hunter. It may not all be just smoke and mirrors in the wash.

        • Robert White says:

Hunter is a wash, I agree, but I was referring to his family that were standing beside him during the swearing in ceremony.

Hunter is quite the embarrassment, but I’m not holding that against President Biden. It’s not for me to judge people like Hunter. The guy is a chronic drug addict and I feel empathy for people that are that pathologically screwed up because I’m one that was supposed to be a Clinical Psychologist well versed in terms of Behavioural Medicine & Drugs & Behaviour/Addictions et cetera.

Back in 1995 I was offered a graduate school spot in Cross-Cultural Clinical Psychology by the Director of Clinical Studies at the University of Hawaii for my MA/PhD if I wanted to join his team. I couldn’t afford the UofH Manoa Campus at an estimated $200k to complete both degrees and live there as I articled for the Clinical designation in a tertiary care hospital in Hawaii.

          RW

    • Robert White says:

In addition, getting the Orange menace off of the world stage was a worldwide effort whereby everybody on the left acted in concert to rid the world of Trump.

Superordinate goals work like that sometimes when we all throw in to accomplish goals in need of successes. To assert that anyone would use Biden as a prop instead of an individual with agency is to assert that somehow we on the left are like Richard Widmark in the _Kiss of Death_ and that somehow in our worldview we should think of the elderly politician as someone to be strapped to a wheelchair and pushed down a staircase in some deranged effort to replace them with much younger cohorts not unlike
the Psychopath Widmark in the Film Noir classic.

This is not film noir. This is The War Room.

BTW I thought Trump was supposed to be reinstated as President today. WTF happened? I guess there are a few more hours yet. He sure is a master at keeping us all in suspense. Guess that’s his showbiz experience.

        • Doc,

His watch broke and no one wishes to be around to tell him the time. Go figure.

        • Robert White says:

The Zero Hedge website commentators don’t buy Trump’s empty rhetoric anymore and they have all given up on him & the My Pillow guy too.

There are myriad followers of Trump on ZH, but even they now realize there is no hope for him anymore. Not a scintilla of interest in his many moments of bombast at all anymore. Now they laugh at Trump so I think we have seen the last of him now that he can no longer find an audience.
          RW

          • The Doctor says:

It’s frightening to me how many people go on to zerohedge and don’t bother to look up the dodgy background behind that website. Koo koo bananas.

          • Ronald O'Dowd says:

            Doc,

I only go on it for the inflation and unemployment rates. That to me seems solid enough. I hope.

          • Robert White says:

We on ZH think the Federal Reserve & SEC are koo koo bananas.

            Go figure, eh.

            RW

      • Robert,

I would put it to you that Trump killed off Trump politically. Independents make up the largest voting demographic and the idiot Trump buried that vote every time he opened his stupid mouth. Thanks Donald for being you! You’ll never have any idea how grateful most of this planet is.

        • Robert White says:

Watch the documentary _American Insurrection_ and you will realize that Trump will never be invited into any legislature in the United States of America ever again.

The man is just a Confidence Man that thought his Vaudevillian resurrection of Henny Youngman would work for the D.C. crowd because it worked for the New Jersey crowd of wannabes.

I’m pleased as punch that Trump will never annoy us again.

Trump’s fixer Michael Cohen said that Trump always lies and if Trump opens his mouth he’s invariably lying. He said that if Trump says something is going to be really big it won’t be big at all. Trump had a mentor that taught him everything he knew, but Trump was no Roy Cohn. The NYC RE scions are all hat and no cattle IMHO.

P.S. O’Toole is up over 4% in the polls so he is almost in a horse race that could turn into a neck-in-neck race by September. You might be right that I am underestimating the Conservative camp.

A majority government for JT, and an unpopular austerity program will be required to confront an out-of-control debt.

Another minority government for JT, and the message is clear: Canadians don’t want the lad to have both hands on the wheel.

If I was him, I wouldn’t roll the dice: play for time. He’s got it made, as it stands right now.

    • Ted says:

More like tax increases. The Minister of the Magic Money Tree already tried to thwart the will of Parliament on taxes and then lied and blamed it on the civil service. These people are out of control. Awful. I’ll be voting for another party for the first time in my life if the unPrimeminister actually calls an election.

    • Campbell says:

If you’re right that he wins a majority and implements unpopular austerity, then it stands to reason you think the LPC would lose after those four years. You say that if you were Trudeau, you’d just hold off an election, presumably because you’ll think that there will be a better opportunity to win between now and October 2023. Why is that, and when do you think the opportunity to win a majority will be better than it is now? If you’re giving good advice, you’ll have a good answer to that question.

    • Ronald O'Dowd says:

      Gilbert,

No need to send that message to him personally. This Prime Minister on Day One in 2015 knew perfectly well that he was both not ready for government and overwhelmingly unqualified. Unlike most people, not one iota has changed in his case since 2015… pathetic but resoundingly so true!

    • Ronald O'Dowd says:

      Douglas,

You see, he’s going because for him Canadians are extremely gullible saps and voters are there to be played for idiots. This PM just laughs at all of us and is so convinced that we all are so detached from reality and therefore more than willing to give him once again all of the power keys in Ottawa for the next very long five years.

Sorry, BUT I DON’T THINK SO. No voter is that stupid and a B-Class actor like yourself isn’t about to change that. Nice try though.

See ya soon in the unemployment line!

      • Douglas W says:

        Ronald,

        Voters are stupid.
        Libs own the GTA.
        They own Montreal.
They’re going to win at least 25 seats in Atlantic Canada.

Yup: he and his handlers are laughing at us.
They have reason to be smug.

  6. Gilbert says:

I completely agree with everything stated here. It’s time to send the prime minister a message: he isn’t qualified.

  7. Miles Lunn says:

Agreed and never mind with rising inflation and out of control deficit, there are going to be some tough unpopular choices ahead. And no MMT is not a viable solution nor is solely taxing the rich (we don’t have enough of them to cover current spending even if we taxed them at 100%, sure their rates may go up, but so will middle class too) so things will get ugly in a few years. Anyone remember 1995? I sure do and I see another one coming fairly soon thanks to Trudeau’s recklessness. All the good policies under Mulroney, Chretien, Martin, and Harper that helped make Canada a lead player in G7 and OECD have been flushed down the toilet by Trudeau.

Sadly, I think he will again. Sometimes people have to learn the hard way.

  8. Scot says:

    I’m a troll. I’m pathetic.

    • Sean says:

Excellent. Submit your application to the Liberal Party Green Light Cte.

    • Scott…you should have resurfaced nice and soft, at least at first. Instead, Warren’s fried you. Not your best piece of tactical thinking if you wanted to adequately defend this government. But then, who’d want to come over here AND defend them? Other than this PM, of course.

  9. Phil in London says:

    I just want to vomit.

I don’t know if I am more disgusted about how many cultists in red pant suits and red ties will be busting their asses to get this clown his coveted majority, the inability of the conservatives to show themselves as a competent alternative or the lefties who will abandon their principle as and vote red if blue gathers any steam.

Despite what any of them say they have been spending the last 18 months preparing for this vote, not serving the country.

Many people in the Interior of British Columbia are evacuated from their homes and living on couches or in makeshift campgrounds, if they aren’t actively battling wildfires. They will not be impressed with this election call. Mind you, the Interior is largely a Tory/NDP fight so why would the Liberals care about thousands of evacuees?

  15. Ronald O'Dowd says:

In short, they’ve thoroughly fucked themselves: first they plant the story in Reuters that telegraphs the election as a definite and then NANOS hits predicting no Liberal majority. And what does gravity do in a campaign when you’re already sliding? EXACTLY.

On their best day in the PMO, a pathetic bunch of stupid amateurs.

    • Douglas W says:

      PMO seems tired.

      They’ve lost their creativity.

      They’ve lost their mojo.

Their only hope: the other parties keep stubbing their toes on the curb.

      • Ronald O'Dowd says:

        Douglas,

Let’s take this down to brass tacks: they won in 2015 because so many could no longer stand Harper and his excessive right-wing mentality during the majority. Trudeau’s future PMO minions had absolutely nothing to do with that win — they simply road the negative Harper wave right into office. In 2019, these same Trudeau sub-pars blew a majority right out of the water and this time, they’ll lead their clueless PM right off the end of the cliff. Referring to them as amateurs is probably at the very least charitable.

        • Ronald O'Dowd says:

Wow! This allows me the opportunity to give The Wizard and his Wynne team a backhanded compliment: absolutely, no question, you guys were better and more solid than Trudeau’s PMO bunch of turds.
