“Just kidding” won’t cut it with this one

    Looking forward to QP today.

The military would have to have working tanks to make this threat credible.

Only one thing meets the firing threshold for this Trudeau-Singh government. Not supporting the wishes Justin Trudeau.

    For example:
    Ask Ms Wilson-Raybould
    Ask Ms Philpott
    Ask Ms Caesar-Chavannes
    Ask Adm Norman

I included Mr Singh above, because of the unwavering support his NDP colleagues show for Justin Trudeau in House of Commons Committee votes.

  4. Peter Williams says:

Would the tanks have run over the protesters?

    • Andy Kaut says:

Would they have stopped at the threat of humanity in their way? Or is that the point of sending a rolling gun to a pooping gin the streets-fight?

  5. Warren,

Why would this government take accountability on this or anything else? That’s never part of their game plan. I’ll predict no resignations or firings in the offing. That would be so out of character for this government. If they’re one thing it’s that they are entirely predictable.

Brendan Miller is doing a bang-up job (IMHO).

  8. Peter Williams says:

‘Justice’ Minister Lametti admitted the Trudeau government didn’t use the legal definition to decide to invoke the Emergencies Act – they used their own reasons, and no we can’t see what those reasons are.

    Shades of the Soviet Union.

What use is Legislation if the state (Trudeau) can act without regard for the law?

    • Andy Kaut says:

He’s always been above the rule of law, and he’s been reelected twice after having flouted it.

Lucky people get what they don’t deserve.

    • Peter,

Remember PET and The War Measures Act: they too weren’t entirely sure what they were dealing with and how large a threat it actually was. So in the eyes of many it was ultimately overkill. Easier said after the fact than during a crisis. So, IMHO, invoking the EA was entirely justified as this thing was dragging on and on with no end in sight. Remember how they said they wouldn’t go until Trudeau was gone as PM? That simply can’t be tolerated in a democracy. But no doubt, some overkill will also be found here. It’s almost inevitable.

The FLQ conducted a number of attacks between 1963 and 1970, which totaled over 160 violent incidents that killed eight people and injured many more.. Included is the kidnapping of Cross and the kidnapping and murder of Laporte. On 17 October, seven days after he went missing, Laporte’s body was found in the trunk of a 1968 Chevrolet Biscayne at Montreal Saint-Hubert Longueuil. In 2010, journalist Guy Gendron produced a documentary series for Radio-Canada, in which he asserted that the killing of Pierre Laporte was unintentional – “Il a été étouffé dans un moment de panique [He was choked in a moment of panic] Airport.https://www.thecanadianencyclopedia.ca/en/timeline/the-flq-and-the-october-crisis

        Ronald

Re comparison to the October Crisis:
We’re there kidnappings by the truckers?
Was there a murder by the truckers?
Were there bombings by the truckers?

And note PET negotiated (via back channels) with the kidnappers.

        • Peter,

Your points are all well founded but the central issue was this: did the so-called truckers have a right to keep at it indefinitely given that their main demand would never be granted? Of course the answer is No. No group gets to unseat a democratically elected government. THAT’S the big picture issue and elephant in the room. Call it an inconvenient truth, especially for some fellow Conservatives.

          • Martin Dixon says:

Ronald-No one is disagreeing with you that it had to end. The debate is whether the EA was the way to do it and whether it was LEGALLY necessary(you are a lawyer I think) and you have already acknowledged it granted them too many powers. And it was clear after the hearings it was neither. The sister of one of my partners had her bank account frozen because she donated a couple of hundred bucks. It was bizarre and silly to consider her a national security threat. And the last bunch of clowns you want to give the powers of the EA to are these clowns.

          • Peter Williams says:

            Ronald

The Trudeau government could have met with the truckers, at Trudeau level, or at ministerial level, or via back channels. They, and other Liberal governments, have met formally or informally with many different groups, including those who have had members advocating overthrow and/or removal of governments. They’ve met with representatives of groups who bomb and/or commit arson.

Trudeau’s Ministers before and at the inquiry, said the police asked for the imposition of the EA. The RCMP, OPP, and Ottawa police said they didn’t ask for it. Clearly Trudeau’s Ministers or the Police are lying.

I am mystified why Ottawa officials said they had no tow trucks to remove the big trucks. Many big cities have their own tow trucks, you see them towing broken down buses. Ottawa, Hull, Montreal, or Toronto don’t have their own tow trucks?
The Canadian Army has wheeled and tracked recovery vehicles designed to recover wheeled armoured vehicles and even tanks. Could these not have been used?

          • Martin,

I opposed the freezing of bank accounts from the get-go but most people haven’t got a clue that doing that was a means to a future end: they needed a pretext, extremely serious or otherwise, to do a trial run. And for what purpose? Well, as we all should know, The New York Fed just started the CBDC trials. So, we all know what that means: future monitoring and blocking capabilities of all commercial and personal banking transactions by the BOC and other central banks. It’s coming fast and now The Federal Reserve knows that the template works, thanks to the EA and the freezing of some Canadian bank accounts.

          • Once the CBDC is operational, the American paper dollar will be abolished, as will paper currency in most other G20 countries. That’s the writing already on the wall.

          • Peter,

The Trudeau Liberals don’t get a blank cheque from me on the EA. Not by a long shot.

    • Martin Dixon says:

The hearings are pointless. And as far as the below is concerned, there was no comparison between the circumstances prior to the imposition of the WMA(which I supported) and the EA.

  9. Martin Dixon says:

Just watched the lawyers make their final statements. I don’t think anyone disagrees that SOMETHING needed to be done but a few of those lawyers made a pretty strong case that the SOMETHING should not have been the EA, no matter what you thought of the protestors.

    • Martin,

The other thing is the lens: Ottawa had fresh memories of January 8th in DC when so-called truckers arrived in Ottawa on January 28th. So that in and of itself was also an incitation to possible overkill as regards to the federal reaction to the protest.

      • Why do I keep writing January 8th…January 6th.

      • Martin Dixon says:

Ronald-there was no comparison between those two events. Protests up here are actually kind of cute and typically Canadian-at least that is what my Americans tell me.

Jan 6th-Deaths-5 deaths during the attack (1 from gunshot, 1 from drug overdose, 3 from natural causes);[21][22] 4 officer deaths by suicide in the aftermath of the attack[23]
Injuries-Unknown number of rioters, including at least five hospitalized[24] At least 138 police officers (73 Capitol Police officers, 65 Metropolitan Police Department officers),[25] including at least 15 hospitalized
        Charged-948

        Canada-Casualties, arrests and damages
        Injuries 6
        Arrested 272
        Fined 2,600

If they really believed it was a January 6th situation, they should not have waited a month. As far as the CBDC goes, that just reinforces the point that maybe some of the one world government conspiracy theorists have a point. We all better all stock up on water, gold, dried food, fuel, weapons and ammunition because that initiative will not go over well.

        • Martin,

First off, your knowledge of the facts and statistics is most impressive. I would quibble a bit with your argument: is there a one-world economy order? Of course there is, but it’s not top down nor is it being imposed by globalization or economic integration. The WEF, IMF, WB, BIS and others are smart enough to act on an individual nation basis only. Their fingerprints are no where to be found in Japan, the UK, Canada, United States or even the EU. It’s each central bank individually pushing a common monetary agenda that happens to almost be identical. The one common denominator: the central bank digital currency that will replace paper currency. Big brother will be supreme in every major financial jurisdiction across the globe without either formal or informal coordination and implementation. In short, no concerted effort. And absolutely no common fingerprints.
