KINSELLACAST 394: Sa’d, Lilley, E. on a bad year – but with the best song and LP of the year!

  1. Warren,

You sir, are as dutiful as the late Her Majesty. Thank you. Happy New Year!

  2. Warren,

God and the angels are in your corner.

Checking in from WNY. Three observations:
    1. Border crossing was very busy. A busy as I have ever seen it. They even had someone directing traffic into lanes and have never seen that before.
    2. Breezed through customs even though we had a full truck and two dogs. About 30 seconds. No one in sight that was going to throw us in jail, no one went through our phones and they didn’t ask for the special paperwork everyone warned us we would need at the border for our dogs(which, against my better judgement, I did fill out).
    3. Ellicottville is hopping and full of elbows up, Southern Ontario, baby boomer liberals. Upset about T, of course, but their protests will be limited to bitching about him while drinking their brandy snifters and sampling charcuterie boards at their cocktail parties. I shake things up a bit by wearing a red baseball cap with Made You Look on it. The double takes are always funny.

It took a few listens but Molly is great. It would be in the running with about 100 songs for song of the year though(I actually think Bleed But Never Die is better-starts off with a Go Gos vibe).

LP of the year for me is pretty easy. Nation Of Language’s latest. Dance Called Memory. Any OMD, NO fan should appreciate it.

Where ideas go to die. Funny. Whenever our partnership would come up with some hairbrained idea that had slight majority support, we would form a committee of some of the weaker partners and then just let fate take its course.

This popped up on my feed today and is a pretty good watch for people sitting around just accepting what is going on around them:

I am an optimistic person. Generally speaking, most self employed people are. I think things will sort themselves out in 12 months or so. Although I have hedged my bets by buying Brookfield.

Oh and no matter what happens in January, the CPC is still going to need money so I am doing my end of season asks and one guy just gave us 1000.00 and thanked me for reminding him. Sorry Ronald.

  4. Warren,

Brian’s is a family decision. Should be fine by all of us. Not to mention that it’s none of our business.

  5. Warren,

Anyone who says Carney is a Conservative is not credible. He’s a disciple of big business corporatocracy. You know, like the Liberals were before Justin Trudeau.

    • Martin Dixon says:

Precisely why the country is a bigger loser than the CPC base. Buy Brookfield. The one per cent will be fine. The rest, not so much.

      • Curious v says:

Sorry but the CPC base is the real loser – angry, yet naive victims of a boatload of propaganda.

        • Martin Dixon says:

The naivety has been and remains on the left. And I literally have the receipts. The fact that you believe that a guy and a bunch of his billionaire backing friends are going to shift any of their wealth down to folks like you is so cute! Bone up on how Goldman Sachs has behaved over the years. That is who is in charge, basically, and Wiseman with his experience at Blackrock will fit right in.

          • Gilbert says:

Yes, that’s the irony. Many of the people who voted for Mark Carney think he’s fighting for them. They think having negotiations about negotiations is just fine, and they excuse all his failures.

I guess you weren’t around for the last decade of Mr Trudeau’s reign as PM. The consensus seems to be that things didn’t actually go that well…

  6. Curious V says:

The CPC base has been radicalized. It’s as though the country made gains combating ignorance until the internet emerged as a major medium, and then every idiot could publish their bullshit conspiracy theories, so the conservative base regressed in their views to coincide with the advent of social media peddling anti-social ideas.

Slow day at work – I’m listening to the Kinsella Cast. Great way to kill some time.

  8. Curious v says:

We need more from people with power regarding the upsurge of antisemitism in Canada. We need more from our school system, and teaching about the Holocaust should be required starting at an early age. We have to confront this ugly hate culture, and we have to do it now. Good job Warren for leading the charge – it’s like a disease and our actions are the cure.

  9. Sean says:

I’m hopeful that 2026 will not be so loaded up with profound, epic stupidity as 2025. It’s possible, but not likely. Although I thought the same about 2021.

I love all the Kinsellacast characters… However, I extra appreciate the interview with non political person (E.) at the end and her simple advice. Kindness.

  10. EsterHazyWasALoser says:

God bless you Warren. Best wishes for the upcoming year, and let’s hope things improve. I can’t speak for any of the others who post here, but if you need help, I would step up. I think it is the least anyone can do. After listening to your opening monologue, it made me think of the Germans that followed the credo of National Socialism, and what 100,000 or so of them were thinking 83 years ago. I am very interested in military history, and 83 years on this date, the battle of Stalingrad was reaching its peak. The Red Army had surrounded the city, and the members of the German Sixth Army were freezing and starving to death. I wonder if they had second thoughts about all that hate and evil that had absorbed, and where it had led them.

    • EHWAL,

One of my friends is in his mid-70s. He is the most gullible and naive person I have ever met. And to no one’s surprise he remains an unquestioning Trump supporter even with Epstein, etc. National Socialism started out on the exact same trajectory and went from there. You can easily guess who I think Trump is the reincarnation of. Can’t wait for impeachment and this time a Senate conviction at trial. Too bad Elon (DOGE) axed the Adobe U.S. government account…all the media had to do was ControlWhatever and all the redactions magically disappeared. Even if he resigns the presidency, at least twenty-years likely lie in his future. Hum, partial legal immunity after leaving office…I don’t think so. So long, POS.

  11. Martin Dixon says:

Obviously they didn’t learn from Napoleon.
