Next time someone says Sun News is a CPC adjunct, I plan to cite this
(And, may I say, this is very, very disappointing.)
KCCCC Day 33: things that bug me
- As E-Day approaches, and as the extend of the Liberal Party of Canada’s humiliation becomes harder to deny, I am bugged by a variety of things. Here are some of them. Expect to hear more about some or all of these subjects in the coming four years.
- I am bugged by this “we need time to rebuild” crap. This one really bugs me. Can someone explain how, exactly, we Grits will do that, in the event that we are reduced to third party status? If Harper wins a majority, the election vote subsidy, as I repeatedly warned Lib friends, will be gone. So there’ll be precious little money with which to rebuild. The media spotlight will turn away, except for the odd obituary-writer. Questions will be fewer in the House of Commons. The OLO budget and staff will be gone (although, thankfully, so will be “one of the most experienced Liberal organizers and logistics experts in Canada,” quote unquote, as a result). And so on. So spare me your whimperings about “rebuilding,” whimperers. You make me ill.
- I am bugged by this “Warren, you and John Mraz were right” crap. Last night, John and I were laughing, grimly, about the large number of enthusiasts we now seem to have. “I always said you guys were right when you called for a coalition or merger with the NDP!” they say. Oh, really? Is that so? John and I don’t seem to recall very many people in the foxhole with us, back in June 2010, when assorted ICBMs were being fired in our direction – in fact, with the notable exception of Jim Curran, we don’t recall anyone having the gonads to step up and say one reformist word about what the LPC needed to do to remain relevant and competitive. In fact, all the two of us remember is a large number of federal Libs pretending they didn’t know us anymore.
- I am bugged by assumptions we see in some of the news coverage. Some Libs seem to blithely accept that the NDP – if they do indeed win Official Opposition status – will want to discuss cooperation/coalition/merger with the LPC. Trust me, they won’t. Why negotiate away your existence when you (now) hold the upper hand? Coalition/merger is dead, people. Dead. You had a shot, a year ago, and you did nothing. It’s over. Isn’t the view from Elba Island grand?
- My apologies for the cranky mood. But the obtuseness (is that a word?) of some people just staggers me. So sit back and enjoy your cup of hemlock, federal Liberal ostriches. It’ll all be over soon.
- Pic of the campaign: This happened a couple weeks ago. Turns out you could’ve applied those moustaches to the whole country, eh?
I always liked Larry
Poll are for dogs, etc.
In the past hour I did Charles Adler’s radio show, and then I talked to some campaigning friends, and I just got off the line with a journalist pal. Everyone is buzzing about the latest poll, or the latest seat projection, or whatever. After careful reflection, here is the position I have reached:
THE POLLS ARE ALL OVER THE MAP, AND HAVE BEEN FOR WEEKS. THE SEAT PROJECTIONS ARE BASED ON CONTRADICTORY POLLS, AND ARE THEREFORE A JOKE.
I accordingly give up. At this point, the only poll that matters – as the old saying goes – is the one May 2.
Partisans, GOTV!

KCCCC Day 32: Three strikes, yer out – plus Harpo quotes and Kent’s anti-Israelism
- It’s a rainy and dark day here in the GTA (say that fast ten times, and you’ll sound like you’re giving a Jesse Jackson speech), and I suspect the meteorological conditions match the mood of various Grit candidates – and some Tory ones, too. So, today, I describe the three big mistakes in the federal Liberal campaign. Comment away!
- “The first came in May 2009, when the Conservatives unleashed their first wave of attack ads against Ignatieff — and Ignatieff decided against responding in kind…”
- “The second big mistake came a year later, in June 2010 — when Ignatieff slammed the door on any possibility of co-operation (or coalition, or merger) with the NDP…”
- “The third big mistake came in the spring of 2011, and everyone remembers it: Despite being far behind in the polls, despite a lack of election readiness — despite the fact that senior, more-experienced Grits were pleading for caution — Ignatieff and his senior advisers decided to defeat the Harper government, and force an election…”
- Other stuff: Here, again, is the big honkin’ file of Harper quotes – one that, if read by every Canadian (they won’t be) would consign him to the dustbin of Canadian political history….
- And, on Peter Kent’s despicable anti-Israel documentary that I’ve been writing about: You can find it right here, for you to judge for yourself, Thornhill: vote for Karen Mock now!

I can’t say this on Akin’s show, but holy shit la merde!
