Senate scandal, international edition

The newspaper of record notices.  To wit:

It began as a seemingly mundane dispute over expense claims from four members of Canada’s Senate, an appointed body rife with patronage and long a source of minor scandals. And while the amount of money involved is not vast, it has become a major political scandal for Canada’s prime minister and his government.

What effect is it having, if any, on voter opinion?  We shall see, obviously.

But it’s a classic case of what I said on Sun News this week: big political graves are dug with little shovels.

Twenty years ago today (updated)

Thank you, Andreas Papadopoulos!

The snaps below – of the Star and Globe front pages, 20 years ago – come from Andreas’ personal collection.  Andreas had what I couldn’t find on the Internet.

Twenty years! What a night that was.  And I can’t believe how old I am.

In my advanced age, I comfort myself with being a small part of six big wins (three Chretien, three McGuinty), and a few smaller ones, too.  Time to retire. (Or do new things – stay tuned.)

One more reason why Justin Trudeau deserves to be Prime Minister

Read this:

“For me to criticize my Prime Minister while I’m on a foreign visit is just not the way I was raised,” said Mr. Trudeau, who is a staunch supporter of the pipeline that would funnel Alberta oil-sands crude to the global markets offered by Texas and Louisiana refineries.

See that? Not the pipeline part. The criticism part.

That’s yet another reason why this Trudeau guy should lead this country: he doesn’t attack our Prime Minister when he is abroad.

Anyone recall who didn’t do likewise?

Hint: March-April 2003.

Right.

Hot Nasties reviewed by The Revue!

To wit:

Don’t you just love vinyl reissues of vinyl treasures from the ancient past? Ugly Pop Records has made a business of reissuing a whack of old gems, including this one from the famed (well, if you were a punk in Calgary around 1980) The Hot Nasties.

3 songs, with the title track (Invasion of the Tribbles) being the one you really want to hear. It’s a fast-paced 2-chord rocker with a great Ramones/Misfits style backing OH YA vocal.

The other two tracks are pretty good, but a lot slower and they don’t match the punk intensity of Tribbles. For collectors of vintage Canadian punk, this is a must. And, it’s only $5.99. So check it out!

Anchorman Two trailer, right here

The movie isn’t coming out until December 20.  So, if you need me, just look for the unshaven, emaciated form huddled in a sleeping bag outside your local theatre, eating pork rinds.  That’ll be me.
